Do you think it would be fine for me to download all songs and then wait until I'm able to download the tagging applications

Yes, I think that's what I would do. Downloading from deemix and tagging in other programs are separate processes, so you can do them separately at different times.

I'd probably even encourage to download them now, because as you can see, deemix doesnt get updated anymore and things start to break.

It also gives you time to revise your methods of downloading and tagging. (For example, I started downloading my songs from a website, one by one, until I found deemix (that website got shut down soon after, rip).)

So, no need to do them simultaneously. Download them now and tag them next year or whenever you can. You can afterwards simply sync the ("properly") tagged files to your other devices and have the metadata everywhere.

I dont know much, but it may not be available at that quality (it might be available at lower quality, for example mp3 instead of flac). If the issue persists, you probably have to look somewhere else for them, yes. I think I had around 4% error rate on my playlists. (Many of which I havent yet downloaded, too bored to look them up somewhere else, lol.)

I had a notepad opened ~at all times to keep track of what is downloaded and what not.

Happy that you eventually made it, this is where the fun begins😄

I realized I actually got deemix from here (https://download.deemix.workers.dev/), not from archive.org. I found the link listed here https://old.reddit.com/r/deemix/comments/zlswiz/last_update_is_now_out/ . I don't know if there's any difference to the versions we have installed (like, if mine has the webui built-in).

To open the webui, I open the gui app. Wait about a minute for it to log in and start properly. Then I open my browser and type http://127.0.0.1:6595/ . The webui opens up (I had to put the arl once again though). Notice how in my gui app, in the about section it shows my webui version, if doesn't show up on yours it may not have it (or somehow it isn't running yet):

Just a reminder, for me it works in the gui version too. I put the spotify username (found here https://www.spotify.com/us/account/profile/) and find the long alphanumeric username spotify has for my account and paste it in the spotify username field in deemix. Then I go to the Favorites section in deemix, scroll down and can see my playlists.

Deemix fetches a lot of metadata and they are kinda accurate. If the tags appear properly on your devices you probably dont have to care much more. Besides, you can do it in the future if your needs change. Thus, I think you can skip it.

As to why I do it:

Deezer and any platform may have lacking info, so what I try to do is kinda merge tags from various sources in a way that I get ~the most and best info. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there is no standard way of tagging or at least ~noone uses it (I think flac and opus have some general tagging guidances, but many times they are ignored), so I tried to make my way of organizing the mess.

Another reason is that if you have proper tags, you (almost) no longer need to create playlists (which are hard to move across devices). I also came up with the idea of adding a custom genre to the genre tags of songs. For example, I add the [F@vourites] genre tag to my favourite songs and I can simply select to play all songs under the [F@vourites] genre, bypassing the need of playlists.

I just find it neat (but probably breaks the standard even more), lol. (And it's a good way to unconsciously distract myself from my responsibilities.)

Haha, I was gonna reply to you in the other thread, but you found it already😄 Good luck!

Lol, that might be me, almost. I knew the movies and books existed (I think I have watched one), but I kinda doubt I remembered the writer's name. Just few years ago I made a friend who critisized the writer about her transphobic views and that's kinda how I got to know her😅

OH THANK YOUUUUU!!

And it works on deemix-gui too! Thank you!!!

Turns out I was using my display name instead of the username of my spotify account and I never had that option. Thank you! Now I can download my playlists!!!

And by changing the username I can download playlists directly from other acxounts without adding them to my favourites. Thank you!! I'll update the post as well :)))

Ok so I eventually found out how to do it, but still it fails. I opened deemix-gui, opened firefox, went to 127.0.0.1:6595, logged in with the deezer account and pasted the spotify playlist link in the search bar. Exactly the same errors appeared and there is no option to select songs from the spotify playlist at all. (I think this option comes up if I use a deezer playlist instead.)

May I ask

  1. Have you tried this today to check if it still works?

  2. Did you try to download a spotify playlist? For example pasting this one in the deemix search bar and downloading it: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1nbef1tfmJSpsMPpOYn6GC

On my device it parses the songs and once it tries to download them the errors start popping up🫤

Thank you for your suggestion, but it doesnt help me much, as I want to download my music from deezer, in flac quality (spotify doesnt provide this). Deemix has a feature that it can take a spotify playlist, read the songs, find matches to the deezer library and download them from deezer in higher (probably) quality.

Your solution seems interesting. So, the deemix web ui version has an option select which songs to download from spotify playlists?

Furthermore, 1)does this run on windows and 2)do you have any guide on how to install it?

So, I did some tests. Apparently you can download individual songs with spotify links, but it can no longer download spotify playlists. I think spotify possibly changed their api recently, breaking deemix... I had used it in the past to batch download ~3k songs..

I used this reddit post to create the spotify app, but there's probably an issue with the api.

Ugh... thats an issue.. I might create a post about that on the community tomorrow or today (its getting late)..

I feel like I wasted your time too🫤

If I get any updates I'll try to let you know.
