Whether you're a seasoned online community explorer or a curious newcomer to this instance, we've got you covered. Let us walk you through some of the most frequently asked questions to help you get started on this exciting journey:

โ” "What is Beehaw?"

A: Beehaw is an online community that shares similarities with the popular platform Reddit. โ” 2๏ธโƒฃ "What are the community guidelines?"

A: The only rule here is to be(e) nice. If you'd like to understand more why the only rule we have is open to interpretation or judgment, check out the section on our philosophy in the sidebar.

4๏ธโƒฃ โ” "What is an instance and why do I keep hearing about them, how does Lemmy tie into it?"

A: Well my Little humanoid! It's quite easy to understand. Think of each instance as their own little community like a discord server, a Facebook community, or an email address. By making an account for beehaw (link here once again https://beehaw.org/signup ) you are signing up on the Beehaw instance, but you can interact with every other instance which we are federated with, such as the main Lemmy instance. Some instances are not very nice and we have defederated with them due to problematic behavior, so if you want to interact with those communities you'll have to sign up elsewhere.

e) Share your expertise: If you have specialized knowledge or skills, consider hosting an "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) session or providing valuable insights in your areas of expertise in the "Chat" Community. Sharing knowledge is a fantastic way to contribute and foster learning within the community.

c) Community feedback channels: Look out for community-wide feedback channels, such as periodic surveys or discussion threads like https://beehaw.org/post/413919 for instance!, where you can provide your input. These threads are designed to gather feedback from the entire community and shape the future direction of Beehaw.

8๏ธโƒฃ โ”"I want to donate to this specific instance, how do I financially donate to this specific instance? Can I donate anonymously? Can I donate crypto?"

A: Yes, Yes, (and hopefully) yes if you prefer that option!

https://opencollective.com/foundation/updates/ocf-can-now-receive-cryptocurrency here are the steps to donate crypto currency by opencollective (if they updated this please inform me below!)

And if you prefer the traditional method of donation, we have our donation link here!

https://opencollective.com/beehaw/donate

Running servers and all that mess can get rather expensive, especially with upgrading and switching systems. So we encourage those to donate if you absolutely want to. Please do not send us donations if you cannot financially support yourself, only do it if you absolutely feel inclined to. We aren't trying to extort our user base for cash to keep the site running 24/7 of course. Simply donate to the server's expenses if you feel like you can.

Remember, your voice matters, and we are committed to continuously improving the Beehaw community based on your valuable input.

๐ŸŒˆ We hope these additional points address some of the common questions you may have about Beehaw. Below you are free to ask any additional questions and I'll try to get to them as soon as possible.

Most likely related to that then

Hello flesh Creatures that inhabit this app and or website instance, due to me threatening the developers at gunpoint (aka politely asking), I asked if I could be a pseudo community manager of some kind, due to wanting to take the stress off of them constantly answering questions.

due to me being on my phone 24/7 (download Jerboa! It's great and the developer could use help if they're interested, not managed by us)

this means generally speaking, I can answer questions newer people might have, or just a general inquiry.

Now what does this mean? Well my little homosapians, that means that whenever you have an issue, you can comment on this post or mention me somewhere if you have a general inquiry about something. If it's something I can't personally answer (i.e code stuff, because while I am an intelligent 19 year old, I'm not intelligent enough to understand coding!), I think that's a good idea personally.

Thank you everyone for also making us surpass over 600$ in total donations!!, You can donate here to support the developers of this instance more here. https://opencollective.com/beehaw

(it also supports crypto through this method, if it's still up to date!)

https://opencollective.com/foundation/updates/ocf-can-now-receive-cryptocurrency

If you have any questions, I'm willing to answer them whenever I'm available.

I don't expect the average person to move to Lemmy but I do think they're silly for criticizing it for it's low userbase when they themselves could be the users that populate it, currently this place has 2k (if I'm in the right space) people who've at least checked the site out.

If anything it should be easier considering there's a boost like reddit client for Android on the app store currently.

If I had to vaguely guess what's causing the issue, is a dead or invalid community being linked onto a sidebar, I'd have to find where specifically I found it originally tho

I left a github thing on it

(Also while trying to edit this comment I got two errors.)

crunchyroll was a what now?

Another boost user, welcome to Lemmy! The app is a lot like boost too imo, just without all the features currently.

I would wonder if the boost developer could get into contact with the app developer..

The app flashes a light that fills the entire screen up whenever I click another tab.

You came onto Lemmy from reddit to encourage people to go back to reddit?

[โ€“] AnotherOverHeaven@beehaw.org 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

why people keep giving these companies the benefit of the doubt I do not understand.

[โ€“] AnotherOverHeaven@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago (7 children)

I noticed that earlier! Pretty neat feature honestly.

I've always liked duckduckgo cause of how easy is to use mostly.

Ello there, using the android app, it's a god send and reminds me a lot of boost (minus the themes), but I wanted to point out, when someone links to a community, the app doesn't seem to recognize the link and instead wants me to go to my browser to look at the link instead of inside the app, is this something intentional or is it something going to be added in the future?

(Example of what I mean)

Also, I can't edit this setting and I don't get notifications from the app currently.

And finally, the button in the top right doesn't do anything.

Edit: I also got this error when I tried to check a community linked in a sidebar
