lists niche-specific list of requirements Genuinely surprised this doesn't exist.

Most of what you want already exist in tons of simple php scripts that will take a directory and present each directory as a gallery. The live transcoding thing is something you can always add, because ya know, the majority of servers do not have GPUs.

It's awesome that more people are discovering new useful software through answering here!

I considered an accounting SaaS once. Only once though. The amount of constantly changing regulations would make it a very high maintenance project.

I have a community-based website and I'd like to add a text and video-chat feature to it. I'd like it to be text-first and video second, so you don't have to be streaming to be in the room and for the main part, to be text. Everything I find is video-only. I can host the video streaming data myself.

Is there some project that the opensource world is missing that you think it needs?

This is an intervention. All your posts are full of vitriol. You need to take some time out.

I never believe "well, there's someone worse off than you" is ever the answer.

Otherwise, you being held in a basement, chained up, raped daily, mothering kids by your abuser is not a bad situation because, "hey, there's someone worse off than you."

They survey the building to make sure it's fit for habitation, what problems may arise and then write a detailed report and charge you loads of money for it.

Even if they toss it you’ll feel better for having written it.

Unfortunately, the property market is heating up now for spring, so I need to spend my time wisely. I think I'm just going to can all the listed properties of this estate agency. It's their fault that I couldn't have made an offer earlier because they refused to show me the basement because "they never had the key for it" - a common excuse from dodgy agencies - and with there being no photos of the basement it sounds fishy. I know it leaks, it's a 100yo property and neighbours have told me theirs does, but I think the agency wanted me to put an offer down without seeing it. When I specifically asked questions about it, they went unanswered, so I'm thinking maybe cracks.

Strange, huh!

Yeah, most are registered with RICS. This one also owns a company that is an estate agency as well. As soon as I saw that, it clicked why he sounded really excited at it and then poof gone.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is a trait of professional careers. Do you think doctors, nurses, etc only study on work time?

If you're not in such a professional field, discuss remuneration for doing it in your free time as the company will benefit. You need to figure out how much you want for a raise, and if things fall through remind them you'll be more employable and you can go elsewhere after passing. Maybe even push for an early raise now to keep you as it seems they like you.

Lost the house of my dreams today. Before putting an offer down, I call up some conveyancers to get quotes for work done and one of them instead views and puts an offer down.

Super angry. Had been researching it for about three weeks asking questions and wanting a second viewing. The agency didn't even respond to my first email asking questions for about ten days because apparently it was in their spam box.

I kinda want to go to the agency and flip the tables (not literally, I'm a skinny shit) and for this conveyancer to do it is probably a conflict of interest.

So yeah, really annoyed and have been stewing all day. How do you deal with such situations?

I thought it referred to the tears of the children who were forced to... oh, nevermind.

And Muslims can openly lie about what is and isn't true under Sharia law???

So apparently under Sharia law, Muslim men can have anal sex with a girl under 8, and vaginal with a girl over 8.

Not sure if off-topic, but what's the best way to go about finding coding gigs at the moment? Need some urgent funds so need to reach out to people somehow.

I think of linkedin as a facebook for businesses leading you open to being spammed by agencies, which I don't really want.

Though I have years of experience of coding across many languages and fields (audio, computer vision, e-commerce backends, etc), and github accounts over the years with some pushes to the core of a few major projects, I haven't really kept the accounts, and past projects have nearly always been back-ends for clients so can't exactly add them to a portfolio.

Languages I'm currently using would be python / php (including symfony and laravel), though happy to switch to javascript/html coding, some c/c++ etc, so I'm not tied to one area I guess.

Is there a decent place to advertise or, is there a better way lately? Thanks

I'm working on a project that needs lots of toolbars on screen at once, even though not all of them will be used at the same time. So, I'm modelling this 'foldable' dock widget after what I remember Photoshop panels used to be like.

It's a work in progress, but would like to hear constructive suggestions.

Working on a class that I'd like to use in a library (not for work) and think I'd appreciate external opinions!

If not, where else could I post code for critique? Thanks

A great way to learn the basics. It'll be old, but that's ok. It's going to cover all the shell basics and then more. It's still going to be useful, it'll cost you pennies, you'll be able to dip into it when you want, and you'll be giving to a good cause.

Macro keyboards are mini programmable USB keyboards that can be pressed to trigger shortcuts, a sequence of keypresses etc. They can have several layers so switching to a different one will trigger different keypresses from the same key, so e.g. different IDEs can be represented.

I've just bought one with a view to setting up shortcuts for debugging. Each IDE has its own unique keys for navigating through the code, so I figure it'll be nice to just press one key to start debugging and one key to step into instead of a combination of ctrl+whatever etc

Do you use one? If so, what do you use it for and what size do you use? Is it too big / too small?
