Synopsis: Alex claims the all electric Porsche Taycan Linus bought, although having all the cool features, lacks the "fun" of a gas car. A gas car like the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Core. Linus drives the GR Corolla, then Alex takes it to the track.

What do you think of the video?

Thought this was a really weird video for the main channel. Do they not have some kind of car channel at this point?

Anyway, appreciate they want to try new things, but this wasn't for me personally.

Yeah, I was seeing that a lot in the comments. You're totally right to think that, but in my opinion I think the video was more broadly comparing gas vs electric cars and their use cases. Not specifically on one car. I agree with having a separate channel, even Linus has said in a WAN show that a car channel is inevitable. But at their size doing something as big as releasing a new channel will take time. Like gamelinked took like a year to make. Regardless, I will try to post these upload posts only for big videos that most people will like. If someone wants to watch a video that's more specific, they probably will find it on their own.

Yeah, I respect that. Actually really liked the formatting of this post, with the little summary, and opening the discussion. Much better than having some bot just dump the link here for every video!

That's actually part of why I chose to drop the first comment, hopefully these can be hopping with some good engagement going forward. I think like many people, I often have thoughts or want to discuss these, but YT comments are just a nightmare if you want to do anything more than skim them.

I thought it was insane saying the Taycan isn't fun at road speeds. It absolutely is.

Tho I can't argue with the manual fun of the GR Corolla.

Why does he make that same goofy face in every video?

[–] tricoro@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

Because these types of thumbs generates more clicks. Don't know why though.

It speaks volumes to how terrible most modern automotive journalism is these days that a tech channel like LTT is making far more compelling automotive content.

In this video, they hit the nail on the head with the problem with most modern cars regardless of if they are ICE or EV. They are boring and have capabilities that you simply cannot extract on public roads. They are too fast, too powerful and loaded with way too many electronics.

And then there's the price!

Maybe for Linus, money doesn't matter, but they at least acknowledge that costs for modern cars is ridiculous. I've unsubscribed to a few automotive channels lately because those hosts just can't produce videos anymore that regular folks like me can relate to. I got sick and tired in hearing Doug Demuro talking down about everything but the top model of a car's model range. He's say stuff like "well the real car enthusiasts out there would just buy the _____ model" and he'd totally gloss over the fact that the top model might cost $10, 20, 50k more than the already expensive base price. Fuck off with your gatekeeping, but I ain't dropping 6 figures on a car even if I had that money.

I've watched most of the car videos LTT has put out and I hope more is coming.
