I find it tedious to figure out what cool sublemmies on lemmy.ml I could be missing.

Just found the awesome https://lemmy.ml/c/riscv sublemmy which I could only find through looking at the list at lemmy.ml.

There are new subs every couple of days and there is no way for their posts to reach our server. Even if a post on a sub that I follow is crossposted to another related interesting sub, that nobody on this server follows, then this crosspost won't be mentioned here.

Idk does anyone else think this is annoying? Maybe it wouldn't be a problem if there where more users on this server, but the 'work' of looking on foreign servers for interesting communities wouldn't be gone, just split between us.

It would be possible to federate a list of all communities on a remote instance, so you could browse that. But probably only the community name and profile, fetching posts/comments could use a lot of resources.

What happens if I just browse "all" on my feed. Then I'll see posts to subs on other servers when they come in, right?

Yes, you can also change your settings so that it shows 'all' by default

Yes but it'll only show content for communities that have already been subscribed to/searched for from your instance

Hi, I had this problem on my instance since I'm the only user. I found a workaround to get all lemmy.ml communities to show up on mine, I posted about it here: https://lemmy.coupou.fr/post/10428

This problem seems similar to the discovery problem small Mastodon instances have.

On Mastodon some folks have created bots that follow new users on other instances automatically, which half of the mastodon fediverse found very annoying.
