Max Verstappen wins the Belgian GP making it 8 in a row for Dutch driver and an unprecedented 13 consecutive race wins for Red Bull.

Further down the grid a poor weekend for teammate Sergio Perez leaves his future with the Austrian outfit in doubt.

Sorry I should have lead with a spoiler warning.

  • Leclerc was looking at a podium finish but slid into the wall.
  • Stroll was not looking at a podium finish but also slid into the wall.
  • Hot damn the McLaren's are quick.

Edit: 0/3, gg boys

I'm getting so bored with max winning, I'm genuinely thinking about cancelling my f1 subscription and watching indycar instead.

[–] hagelslager@feddit.nl 3 points 1 year ago

Disregard Max and we have the closest season in a while.

I feel like we all sold our souls for the championship battle excitement of 2021 and now we're just waiting for 2026.

I’m just watching formula 1.1 and it’s pretty good. Pretend max doesn’t exist and it’s been a great season

Hopefully RIC will get through the start safely this time, will be interesting to see how he does in the long race.

[–] lps2@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ultimately the car was just too slow - he wasn't getting finessed in turns he was getting beat in the straights

[–] credmp@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Sadly true, but one might hope

Besides the top 5, the rest of the grid was really close today. I was often confused about how drivers emerged at the back from the midfield after pit stops.

[–] th_in_gs@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why did Sainz stay out for so long, with damage that was obviously going to send him to the back for no points? Is there some penalty for retiring in the first half of a race?

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

No idea why tbh. No rules he couldn't have been retired earlier.

[–] Ecksell@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

They were probably hoping for a rain red flag to repair the damage. That gamble didn’t work out

[–] whelks_chance@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe data gathering, for what it's worth

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

McLaren not looking good today and not having good luck either.

[–] DWin@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Their gamble on high downforce for a wet race unfortunately hasn't paid off. If it suddenly starts bucketing it down then Lando can still make a solid comeback if they play the strategy right

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

It might pay off. Let’s see what happens in 15 mins:

[–] NusPojava@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They didn't gamble at all. They don't have a slim wing upgrade, so if they used one, it would be too inefficient in terms of drag/downforce ratio. They have an upgrade planned for Monza obviously.

[–] DWin@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Oh interesting, appreciate the info. I thought even their Silverstone wing was less extreme than this one? Unless they just thought that was too inefficient to even consider

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 5 points 1 year ago

OCO will balls of steel there!

[–] JCPhoenix@beehaw.org 4 points 1 year ago

That sucks for Piastri to go out, especially after doing so well during rest of the weekend.

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 4 points 1 year ago

ALB looking very good. Gained 7 places so far.

So what do we reckon? I'm going for Max P3 by the end of the Kemmel straight and race lead by lap 3 if it's dry.

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Lewis should pit toward the end and go for fastest lap.

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

The best circuit of the year is here!!!!

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The bulls are fighting each other today. Will they be mad enough to take each other out?

[–] th_in_gs@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

All things being equal they should just be exchanging first place repeatedly for the rest of the race, with the second place person having DRS all the time. But I’m sure that won’t happen. How does Verstappen do it?!

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

No idea buddy. The man is a machine.

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Max for Driver of the Day?

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

The strategies in this race are going to be fantastic. Please God let Ferrari get it right for once.

[–] kernelle@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Honestly very interesting grid, wouldn't immediately say Max will 100% win this one as well. Depending on how wide everyone is at the start and how incident free it is as well. Although the raw speed of that redbull might prove me wrong.

[–] th_in_gs@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Having not watched any F1 news since the end of the sprint yesterday, I was surprised to hear of the hole in Checo’s side pods after the Hamilton incident. Searching for news on Google is just giving me tons of regurgitated clickbait with no good pictures. Anyone know where I can see good pictures/analysis of it?

[–] hrpanjwani@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago

Ferrari trains at present.

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Some great passes this race.

[–] DWin@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 year ago

Is there any prediction for rain?

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

Perez being 9 seconds behind Max despite everything shows how slow he is relatively.

[–] itsmikeyd@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 year ago

Tsunoda looking good for some points, DRic struggling at the back. Ma's isn't in the lead after 3 laps, which is nice!
