I wanted to share some electronic music communities across Lemmy. While a lot of them are small and honestly across all communities there are maybe ~10 regular posters, we do have a solid core that will hopefully grow in line with people switching to the Fediverse.

!housemusic@lemmy.world - If you don't have much exposure to electronic music, house is a good place to start. It includes influences from US disco and many mainstream tracks have been influenced by house music. Modjo - Lady (Hear Me Tonight)

!deephouse@discuss.tchncs.de - Deep house is the more introverted and psychedelic variant of its more popular cousin. That being said, Deep house has a more down to earth feel than many other EDM genres that lean towards psychedelia. 1 800 GIRLS - U, Me and Madonna

!drumandbass@lemmy.world - An intense dancefloor genre, but also offers a surprising breadth of sub-styles that vary from dark dancefloor music to an almost dance-pop sound (liquid, iD&B). Its jungle cousin (!jungle@lemmy.world) is influenced by reggae and dub music. Omni Trio - First Contact

!dubstep@lemmy.dbzer0.com - It's all about the bass. Some niche/underground stuff offers a unique take on the standard dubstep formula. Kahn - Like We Used To

!ukgarage@lemmy.world - The underground "prototype" of dubstep. Tends to have a more raw and freeform feel relative to dubstep. You can definitely see the connection to dubstep, but UK garage has its own vibe. Cellardore X Mind of a Dragon - Freedom

!trance_music@lemmy.world - IMO trance is one of those live genres (and I say this as someone who mostly listens to trance music at home). It's such a great experience to be flying high with hundreds (thousands?) of other people during a banging live trance mixset. Binary Finary - 1998 (Original Mix)

!idm@lemm.ee - Home listening electronic music focused on "in your head" soundscapes and a contemplative mood. Perfect for when you want something relaxed, but unique, for a rainy evening. Boards of Canada - Aquarius

!progressivehouse@lemmy.world - It's about the sound and feel. You "progress" through the track. More of a style than a genre that reflects 90s and early to mid 2000s production sensibilities. Highly influential with a big impact on other genres and even mainstream music. Best to just hear it: Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden remix).

!psytrance_djs@lemmy.world - Fly from the beaches of goa to underground electronic music clubs. A dancefloor genre that reflects the psychedelic experience. You might end up hearing quotes (samples) from Ken Kesey, Albert Hoffman and Terence McKenna in a lot of the tracks. Shpongle - Star Shpongled Banner

!acid_techno@lemmy.world - I enjoy Acid Techno, but I will admit that at this point this is more of retro genre that reflects an early 90s sounds that served as a prototype for everything that came after it. 808 State - Disco State

I don't know if this counts, but here's a techno community for people who speak portuguese: !techno@lemmy.eco.br

Obrigado meu queride.

I'm the mod of that community, is focused on Brazillian electronic music, mainly Brazilian funk because is my favorite genre, but anything from Brazillian DJs is welcome.

Hey man, thanks for shouting out !dubstep@lemmy.dbzer0.com

To anyone interested I post every day primarily focusing on new releases and sticky a new mix each week on a Monday morning.

I mostly stick to the "real dubstep" sound which is the evolution of the classic dubstep sound that came about in the early 00's as that is my wheelhouse.

I welcome posts of any other kind though be it brostep (the sound most people consider dubstep that was popularised in the 2010's by the likes of Skrillex), Riddim or some dubstep adjacent Leftfield Bass.

Dubstep is very diverse as a genre and that robots fighting sound that was most popular is just a fraction of the styles that are out there. Either way, give it a try, you might find something new and interesting that you didn't know existed :D

In the mean time enjoy one of my favourite tracks from the last couple of years, dubstep with a strong west asian sound - Zha - Ramta Jogi

There is also !ukgarage@lemmy.world but I only post in there very occasionally, may be worth adding to try and increase activity :)

Thank you for this, this is great! I've never actually heard that progressive house song and it was great. Any chance you could put a sample on every community?
