Summary

Jon Stewart has agreed to host Elon Musk on The Daily Show after Musk demanded an unedited interview but later called Stewart a “propagandist.”

Stewart fired back, pointing out Musk’s support for Donald Trump and Germany’s far-right AfD party, arguing that Musk’s version of “bipartisanship” is just partisan extremism.

He dismissed Musk’s criticism as hypocritical and reiterated his willingness to air the interview unedited because that's "how the in-studio interviews normally air."

This will never happen because musk is a coward. Zuckerberg was gonna kick his ass and he shriveled away from that. He is pathetic and deep down even he knows it

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Okay, wow. His mom asked him not to because she was worried about him, he obviously had to back out.

/uj I actually think the world would be better if more people listened to their moms before fighting people (and I agree that the fight would not have gone well for musk), but I don’t think that fits his worldview very well, and I do think he was using it as an excuse

[–] AlecSadler@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 week ago

His mom is a racist piece of shit.

Something else to note is that Jon Stewart pointed out that all of their interviews are aired unedited. So it really wouldn’t be any different than how it would have been anyway.

That’s kind of half true. Sometimes interviews go really long, so they end up putting the full interview on YouTube / Paramount.

But I bet if they got Musk, Comedy Central would make it work and would air the full thing or would at least plug the YouTube channel.

Jon might also bump the field piece segment if they need another 8 minutes. Sometimes they do that.

[–] otto@sh.itjust.works 28 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He said on last night show that he would make sure musk’s interview took as long as it needed.

[–] simplejack@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

Yeah, he’s the biggest thing on the network. They’ll figure it out for him.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

It's been years since I watched the Daily Show, but I do remember seeing edits in the interviews if they went long, but they would show a link to their website where you could catch the whole unedited interview.

And so now we just wait and see what excuse Musk will trot out next.

Stewart is a smart, insightful, quick-witted and tenacious debater and Musk is a cowardly, thin-skinned blowhard who's never had an original thought in his life.

So it's not a matter of if Musk will weasel out of it, but just of when and how.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Also Stewart is something Elon is not: educated.

Jon Stewart knows his shit; Elon Musk knows he's shit.

[–] meco03211@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Musk knows he's shit.

No he doesn't. Musk truly thinks deep down in his heart that he's a good guy and brilliant. That he's actually a fucking idiot, just means it's nigh impossible to convince him of anything he didn't think up himself.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

He may not be consciously aware of it but he does know it. That insecurity is what drives narcissistic sociopaths like himself and Trump.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I’m so stealing this line…😂

Stewart is a smart, insightful, quick-witted and tenacious debater

Yes, well, but did you consider that Musk (probably) threw some money at Dave Chappelle in order to join him on stage during one of his Netflix specials? So he's basically a professional comedian too.

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 48 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Musk won’t do it because Jon Stewart is funny and likable, two things Elon is not and will never be.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 29 points 1 week ago

Don't forget smart

[–] Xanza@lemm.ee 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, I'm sure this is going to go well...

[–] TheCelticPirate@lemmy.world 61 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It'll never happen. The most that'll happen is Stewart getting banned from social media for hurting billionaires' feelings.

[–] pikmeir@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago

Elon will back out like he did for the fight.

[–] ATDA@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

I don't think they'll want to edit out any of the absolute aas beating Stewart will dole out anyway... Which is why this will never happen

[–] Whateley@lemm.ee 18 points 1 week ago

Musk knows he'd leave that interview with his ass in a sling.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 17 points 1 week ago

Elon’s an insecure bitch

[–] WhatSay@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If it somehow did happen, it would be so epic

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Eh, I have no doubt that Jon will pull no punches, ask the real questions and come with the receipts for fact checking... but I have every doubt that Elon will provide anything worth our time. It will likely be little more than Jon editorializing. Elon is a coward and will try to dodge every question, accusation and critique and will, at best, talk nonsense rather than face the truth. Exposing his cowardice has some value, and it's better than just giving him a platform to spew bullshit unchallenged but you can only get so much out of someone unwilling to be challenged and criticized.

[–] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I... Honestly don't think Musk is smart/aware enough to actually do that. I think he'll try to be a weasel, but I have confidence that Stewart could get something juicy out of him.

I hope so. But I'm not feeling lucky lately.

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If this happens I'll eat my hat.

[–] Lon3star@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago

If it happens, does it happen with a complete blow-up/violence? Hope they have extra security in the room

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I'll believe it when I see it. I have about as much faith in this happening as I did the Musk v Zuck fight.

All bark no bite.

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

Elon wants 'unbiased' but backs extremists—Stewart’s mirror must’ve hit him too hard.

They should make him wear a big ass wall clock around his neck and claim it's there to prove that the release is unedited.

[–] Geobloke@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago

But we can start a twitter campaign to convince him that he is all those things, shouldn't be hard

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

Did musk buy the network yet?
