UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(
Nobody needed a crystal ball to know Starmer would be this shit.
He's counting on the fact that no one really cares about disabled people. If this was a race or gender or religious issue there'd be (quite rightly) lots of debate on places like here and just in general too. But the oldest prejudice is still the safest to have - disabled people are seen as annoying embarrassing baggage by everyone. Its why all governments target them and its why the Nazis exterminated them first - no one cares.
Yes, I agree. Disability awareness is so much further behind others. Decent people will make negative assumptions, about a disabled person that they'd NEVER make about BAME.
There's an assumption that disabled benefits receivers are faking it, and yes, some are. They're also seen as beneath non disabled people, and therefore they're an easy one to attack.
If the anonymous briefings in this article are to be believed, Starmer couldn't defend this policy to his own Cabinet, so I don't see how he can expect to defend it to anyone else.
Disabled people are going to suffer really bad because of this. There will no doubt be excess deaths.
Labour taking such a strong anti-disabled stance is really alarming.
Remember how we were told that Labour would actually be different to the tories?
I said continuously that they are just as bad and everyone got mad.
Hopefully the wool has been pulled from their eyes now and next election people will feel confident to vote for alternatives like the greens or any other party that may or may not be being formed.
We had Corbyn but the neolibs and their Zio friends did a hatchet job on him.
Nice to see that labour are called that because they're the party of forcing us into labour, rather representing Labour.
It's been a race to the bottom since they dropped Clause 5, and even that was pretty light handed.
