Norquist has been enthusiastic about Musk’s ability to generate public attention for efforts to reduce the size of government. But he suggested that the owner of a space rocket company wasn’t the right person to spearhead a congressional spending debate.

“He doesn’t know politics like he knows physics,” he said.

Hey dude. He doesn't fucking know physics either. Not any more than a 12 year old who's played KSP for a couple days. He's a pseudointellectual.

Elon Musk actually has a bachelor's in physics. Dunno when he got it, but he does know more than your average person. He's still a huge mega douche canoe sock monkey tho.

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 62 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Was it given to him as a 'you're such a wealthy good boy oligarch' gift by some dipshit dean? Or did he genuinely earn it?

I'm actually asking. I have no idea.

I ain't a gambling man, but I know where I'd place my bets.

Edit:

I looked it up. Snopes says true, but man, is there a fuck ton of inconsistencies and a large donation to penn state. Headcanon is he sucked dick for it.

[–] Weirdmusic@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

If you're paying that much to attend an elite educational institution you can be damn sure they're not going to fail you. There'll be extra targeted one on one tuition, special rewards for any improvement etc etc.

Do really think Trump exerted himself at university? No, the system looks after it's cash cows.

"Elon Musk earned a B.A. in physics and a B.S. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. The degrees were awarded on May 19, 1997." -Penn, 2019

I don’t know much about higher education, but Bachelor of Arts in physics sounds like BS to me.

[–] rhombus@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

There is very little meaningful difference between a B.A and B.S in Physics. B.A is a little less rigorous, but not by much.

That said, I don’t have confidence in Musk being able to earn either without some bullshit going on.

University of Pennsylvania isn't the same as Penn State. They're different institutions FYI. (Not to detract from your point). Just wanted to throw that out there bcz other people are saying it was University of Pennsylvania.

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not a physics degree but an arts degree in physics. He doesn't know shit.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (4 children)

... Do you mean a "bachelor of arts" degree? Because that's not an "arts degree".

I dunno. Maybe they meant he’s a piece of shit in boat form?

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

"hey look at all that budget we cut!"

"what to do.. what to do.. already cut my taxes, three times.. hmmmm...."

"i know, lets go to mars! you're buying."

That doesn't refute the point? It just means that Musk has a grasp on politics inferior to a gifted 10 year old.

“The people who elected us are listening to Elon Musk.”

Fucking kill me now. Someone. Please.

[–] 1024_Kibibytes@lemm.ee 17 points 1 week ago

Well, he did buy the election, so Elon is listening to himself.

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 54 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You mean President Elon tried to kill a bipartisan budget deal with Vice President Trump’s help.

[–] formergijoe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Please, it's president Elon, Vice president JD Vance, and this senile orange guy who has to be around to sign things.

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I thought JD was the first lady

it's worth it just because of how upset and angry trump gets at being called elon's puppet.

[–] Zexks@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is the best thing we can hope for this administration. Complete and utter chaos. Hopefully they’ll be so busy in fighting and firing and rehiring and sexually assaulting people that they can’t fuck shit up too bad.

[–] Eatspancakes84@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (9 children)

The sound of Musk is music to my ears. He is an incompetent and overconfident. A great way to get nothing done. Of course voters do not hold politicians to their promises, but if they did hiring Musk would be a great way to ensure failure.

Two of the stupidest people on the planet marching to Putin's orders - WCGW?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

“Stop the steal of your tax dollars!”

Notice something? They are not his tax dollars. Most likely because he personally does not really contribute to them.

[–] WaxiestSteam69@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago

Jeffries is correct that it will be the Republicans fault but none of them will acknowledge it nor care. They will lap up whatever lies Trump and company come up with and we'll all be screwed.

[–] Spitzspot@lemmings.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Agreed, enough foreplay...let the churn begin.

[–] comador@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Anal. No lube, Arizona dry.

[–] subignition@fedia.io 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wonder how many attempts on Musk's life there have been that the public hasn't heard about. I imagine being among the wealthiest people alive makes you a target even without all of the meddling in politics Musk has done.

[–] Spitzspot@lemmings.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He has his baby shield deployed.

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I hope there isn't even an attempt, that he's instead snuffed out by something stupid like a battery fire in that dumb little tunnel he made where you can't get the car doors open.

I hope one of his kids kills him, itd be hilarious.

the richest man in the world and an unpopular congress just gave you $10 eggs and milk as a christmas present by killing the farm bill. congrats.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

I already keep chickens, might need to add a couple goats before cow milk goes to $10/gal

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 9 points 1 week ago

I really look forward to running both of these turds out on rails. This is something we should bring back from the past just for them.

[–] randon31415@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

One question: Will the TSA be affected by a government shutdown?

yup - and air traffic controllers, right before christmas. good job, republicans.

[–] irotsoma@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It will affect their paychecks. Same with the military and other essential services. Generally, they can't shut down those offices, but they also can't pay them except in cases where the money was already put into accounts for paying those things.

[–] rc__buggy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No, I don't think so. TSA and air traffic have to work unpaid

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Airport security checkpoints etc. will slow to a crawl. The TSA agents may be forced to show up, but they can’t be forced to work at their normal pace.

[–] ReiRose@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I remember this from 2019. It took about a month for the pilot/flight attendant/ATC unions to put 'urge' and end to the shutdown for safety concerns, this is part of their statement:

Due to the shutdown, air traffic controllers, transportation security officers, safety inspectors, air marshals, federal law enforcement officers, FBI agents, and many other critical workers have been working without pay for over a month. Staffing in our air traffic control facilities is already at a 30-year low and controllers are only able to maintain the system’s efficiency and capacity by working overtime, including 10-hour days and 6-day workweeks at many of our nation’s busiest facilities. source

I'm afraid I'm team TSA-is-pageantry. However, TSA should not go without pay regardless and ATC being stressed about finances concerns me.

This is gonna be awesome. /s
