Good, we’ll need the kids in the fields picking crops and the slaughterhouses processing meat when he kicks out all the migrants out.

I doubt he’ll actually kick that many immigrants out. Despite the rhetoric of the capitalist class, they actually want able-bodied immigrants, because they can exploit the hell out of their labor. The immigration rhetoric is largely kayfabe.

The immigration rhetoric is largely kayfabe.

I think it's the same with the tariffs. In fact, I think it's the same with everything he promises. He'll do a token amount of each horrible thing before he gets bored of it or it becomes obviously impractical (see: wall building).

Mostly he'll just make everything slightly worse and do a lot of corruption for him and his friends. Just a little light kleptocracy.

The tariffs might be real, whichever ones benefit his toadies, because you’re right that he is the swamp.

Light kleptocracy? I guess we can hope for the best, but Trmp says “no price is too high to deport illegals”.

The word you are looking for is "slavery".

Elons lithium mines.

If you still think Democrats actually care about a potential mass deportation, ask yourself why Biden hasn't simply pardoned all undocumented immigrants.

Immigration offenses are federal crimes, the president can pardon federal crimes, and you don't actually have to be charged with anything or convicted to receive a pardon (see Nixon).

Silver Lining. Fuck Consoles. Nothing that powerful should have most of its capabilities locked behind DRM, Licensing, and Walled Gardens.

I imagine similar effects for PC's

Correct

Edit: checks history... Always correct.

The PC parts pipeline is ever-so-slightly more diverse, although the article does say Laptop prices could go up by 46% ...

Look forward to more machines being assembled in other countries before hitting US soil, same as is already done for appliances by way of Mexico. Lack of imagination and industry knowlege on the part of whoever wrote the article, or just the desire to fear-monger.

Frankly, prices rising is not something I care about. Taxing the rich has to start somewhere, even if its what the Dems should have been doing.

[–] phar@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Tariffs don't really tax the rich, they just raised the cost for the people at the bottom. You think the rich are going to take Cuts just because?

I think the rich are more prone to buying new items. Eventually the prices of used items will rise as a result of demand, but not right away. No one needs a new game console, and few could not meet their needs with a used PC or laptop.

Most in the US already have all of the above, but sure, this disproportionally "hurts" the poor.

[–] PanArab@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago

For everyone or just the US? Should I get a PS5 Pro and a Steam Deck now? Will the Switch 2 be out in time?

[–] Broken@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I've worked the video game industry and I'll point out a few things.

Trump was president before, and imposed this tariff before. Console and peripheral prices did not go up. There were specific meetings discussing this, and nobody raised prices.

Not that it necessarily will be the same thing this time around, but look at the current prices of things like PS+ and the PS Pro - before tariff increases - and realize if they want to increase prices on you they just will. They aren't looking for an excuse.

Additiinally, the amount of shenanigans that transpires with the video game industry is crazy. The amount of PS4 consoles sold in Canada would mean every single household would have 3.5 consoles in it. Spoiler, they don't, all the consoles were sold into the US at cheaper prices because of the dollar conversion rate. They Gray market is the step child nobody wants to talk about, but they love the added sales numbers. It will continue to exist and balance out the market.

I built a gaming PC during the Trump administration, I had to order the CPU from an ebay seller in Korea because there were none in North America and the GPU i took out of my father's old Dell because there were none to be had at all retail.

I built a PC earlier this year and the case I wanted was out of stock everywhere but everything else was really in stock.
