Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

It's so fucking crazy this whole situation - I live in Europe yet somehow it feels like this election will influence not only the states but Europe as well..and I find that kind scary..

So if you Americans please could change the way your politics work, that' would be much appreciated!

"We cannot leave the security of Europe in the hands of voters in Wisconsin every 4 years" says France's Europe Minister.

American politics affect everyone, and yeah they have an outsized impact on Europe because they embolden y'all's right wing demagogues too.

Trump's influence can be felt around the world already with the right gaining ground everywhere. No matter who wins the election, Trump won already, no need to be president a second time.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think it's more correlation than causation, Russian interference being the common cause.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's one thing, the adoption of his rhetoric by right wing candidates all over the world is a different issue though

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 weeks ago

Trump is not original, most right-wingers in Europe copy Putin and Hitler, so does Trump in a lot of ways.

[–] Botzo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

The underlying problem is that the winners have no motivation to change the system.

[–] Kaput@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Lining in Canada. I agree.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if he already has.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Oh course he already has.

[–] Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world 71 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They fucking better, because he's definitely going to.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And Republicans will do everything legal and illegal to get the presidency

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

And then declare the illegal legal in hindsight via the Supreme Court.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 42 points 2 weeks ago

Just a reminder that as a seditionist trump is ineligible to hold office.

[–] Zier@fedia.io 38 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Just because you claim you won something does not mean it's a fact. And almost ALL republicans are liars.

[–] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Which would be an insane generalization if they weren't basically kicking people like Liz Cheney out of their party for failing to tell the right lies.

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 16 points 2 weeks ago

Shoot him in the face a lot?

[–] twistypencil@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

But they have a plan for Johnson.?

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, wait until the next Congress when he's not speaker.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

They will be cheating at the state level to make sure they hold power in congress. That's part of their plan.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

Whatever the plan might be, it had better include detention of corrupted Supreme Court justices too. Otherwise they'll just hand it to him.

[–] londos@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Would love to know the plan against this https://youtu.be/EySCQI3WEi0

[–] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 2 weeks ago

Ignore him? Keep counting?

You know, if I had any influence over like law enforcement, I'd tell em something like "Yeah, we lost. But guys, this is a great opportunity to flex - on the people who screwed it up most for us. The damn ass hats that kept saying the quiet part out loud!" Or summer shit that like
