This helped a lot with the meme format... Less so with the joke itself lol.

The irony of not being able to tell if it's a self deprecating meme about enlightened channers or legit incelism is moderately scary lol.

I don't think it's either, the joke is just that they combined Plato's cave with a meme template (see the "They don't know" section)

Are philosophy memes next?

Can we truly be sure that we know what a philosophy meme is without first understanding ourselves and the context surrounding the meme?

Is our culture defined by our memes or are our memes defined by our culture?

For those wondering. There was a philosopher (Descartes or Plato, someone old) who posed the question: what if everything we see before us is just shadow puppets put in front of us by some higher power. The conclusion was that we would have no way of knowing. Kind of where the idea for the matrix came from.

Edit: it was Plato

"Plato’s story- Allegory of the Cave- describes a group of people who lived in a cave all their life, chained and facing the wall. Only seeing the shadows before them, the group granted them names, thus becoming prisoners of the imaginary dark images on the wall."

So i guess this is about the "people" people having a more shallow understanding of the world than the book people?

[–] Lordgeoffery@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago
