Edit: I found the culprit! It is an app I've been using for years called "Notification Toggle" that has sadly been abandoned, and that seems to have a bug on Android 14 where it's icon will be stuck at 1 instead of showing the current date. I completely forgot it even had this function, because it was a default on all my phones for a looooooing time without me ever opening it or fiddling with the settings. Sad to see it abandoned, with no hope of getting this bug fixed, but what can I do...

I switched phones recently, and am very satisfied with my Xperia, but there's this one useless icon in the taskbar that annoys me a bit and that is like to hide, but I can't identify it, could someone help?

I tried SystemUI tuner, but it doesn't list it as one you can blacklist in the list of toggles, and I don't know how to find it's key to add it as a custom one. Tried turning off calendar notifications, but that's not it - it still shows. Does anyone know what it is and how to hide it? It's a minor annoyance to be sure, but it's completely useless, and I'd like it gone if possible. Thanks in advance for any help!

That's a great find, thanks! The problem is, I don't actually have any tasks scheduled right now, and the icon never disappears. Disabling calendar notifications completely doesn't hide it either, I even tried disabling the calendar app completely, and still nothing...

Try signing out, logging into the web instance of your mail/calendar, dismissing all notifications, then signing back in on your phone. If that doesn't work, clear app data for calendar.

That didn't work unfortunately - my Google calendar is actually completely empty, no tasks, notifications or anything. Cleared app data, even tried force stopping and disabling the app completely (can't fully uninstall it, since it's system), but the darn icon is still there. Maybe I just need to learn to live with it, even though it annoys me...

Id be inclined to suggest a factory reset but are you sure there aren't other accounts on there maybe?

Possible silly question: Have you rebooted your phone?

[–] doctortofu@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Factory reset is out of the question - I spent way too much time installing and setting everything up after changing phones to nuke it all (because Google sucks and doesn't allow backing all the settings and such without root, but that's a rant for another day).

I did reboot the phone, yes, multiple times - after turning calendar notifications off, disabling the app and so on. No dice, the icon keeps coming back. Oh well, guess I'll have to get used to it - it's a distracting eyesore, but the phone is working fine. Maybe it fixes itself after the update to Android 15...

Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions and willingness to help - appreciate it!

That's super weird, I've had like half a dozen Xperias and never encountered this issue. Hope you can get it figured out, they're usually great phones. Sorry I wasn't able to be more helpful. Might be they patch whatever bug may be causing it soon too though, they're usually pretty quick/good about updates.

Thanks, here's hoping! I love it as a phone, but I suspect it might be another app showing the icon - there should be no way for a disabled app to do so...

Anyway, I'll keep casually digging, maybe start disabling apps one by one to see which one is the culprit or something :)

Dont forget to rule out dual sim phones; indicating sim 1 is active.

I just found these images from ddg image search "dual sim".
The first picture, a Samsung graphic is showing dual sim capabilities by indicating sim1 as a house icon in the system area icons and sim2 is a building.

The second picture is showing a square with a "1" in it. This may be your unknown icon.

edit: i just noticed that your icon is next to the clock (left side - App side). So it could be just a regular app also.
