Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I had to read the headline like ten damn times. And the description is still undecipherable to me.

[–] colonelp4nic@lemmy.world 69 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Agreed. Here's my unsolicited rewrite

What Going on Call Her Daddy Did for Kamala Harris | Podcaster Alex Cooper reaches young, female Middle America in a way conventional news cannot.

Podcaster Alex Cooper reaches young, female Middle America in a way conventional news cannot.

[–] clutchtwopointzero@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Me neither, it's like the writer and the editor had a stroke while writing this

The italics were lost in translation

What Going on Call Her Daddy Did for Kamala Harris

Without any indication it's the title of something it is impossible to know.

There is another article which also shows signs of being written by AI... I pity who pays money to The Atlantic

[–] Know_not_Scotty_does@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

I was trying to figure out why 1) Alice Cooper was considered a podcaster first, and 2) why he had appeal with that demographic.

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I misinterpreted the word “shows” as a verb, instead of a noun. The subtitle is still word salad.

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago

Who's on first?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 48 points 1 month ago (6 children)

The only place I've heard of the relevance of "Call Her Daddy" has been in this weird, very recent, mainstream media circle jerk.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 32 points 1 month ago (13 children)

Same. Never heard of it before. I did hear it mentioned on NPR earlier and they said that it's most popular among young women in the south, so I guess that could be part of it.

Truly curious: do you fit the description of a young, female, middle American?

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

No. However, I don't watch the Joe Rogan podcast either, but I do know about it (its general outlook/ politics). I don't watch The View, but I do know about it (its general outlook/ politics). I also don't watch Fox News, but I know about. There are all kinds of things that I'm not the target demographic for, that I do know about. Its totally fair that I'm not the target demo, but like, I've literally never heard of this podcast before this news cycle. Ma

I asked two women in their late 20's early 30s if they knew about it. Both said no.

The younger one said she said she only doesn't and goes on TicToc and Instagram and that podcasts are for boomers (I am not a boomer).

🤷

[–] GamingChairModel@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago (12 children)

It's a top-5 podcast in terms of popularity, and probably literally the most popular podcast among women. It was, for a time, the #2 podcast after Rogan's.

Spotify paid $60 million to make Call Her Daddy a Spotify exclusive for 2 years, and last year SiriusXM paid $125 million for the ad/distribution rights for 3 years.

It's a heavy hitter in the podcast space, by pretty much every metric.

comments here very interesting to me, I don't listen to hardly any podcasts - maybe a dozen episodes in the last 5 years - and I knew about this podcast.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Interesting. Where did you hear about it?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mostly social media, I am friends / mutual follows with a bunch of C-list/D-list actors and comedians.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

That makes sense. People very tuned into and aware of the space.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Less popular than the Hauk-Tuah Talk podcast by the more recent internet celebrity. And it fell off substantially after the Barstool Sports buyout of the pod causes the original hosts to split up.

Unless you've been in the podcasting scene for a while, I can't say I'm surprised you'd never head of it. The show is dated and its been cloned a thousand times. If Kamala Harris truly wants to influence a large audience of young women viewers, she needs to go on Red Scare or the Adam Friedland Show.

What going with on the title?

[–] Kayday@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (3 children)

Call Her Daddy: title of a podcast
Question: what did going on this podcast do for Harris?
Answer: allowed her to reach young women in middle America that conventional news sources would not.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

These journalists really need to learn how to place commas.

Is being hard to interpret the point?

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Journalists? Where?

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] h3mlocke@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

fr. 14 upvoters don't understand commas either smh my head

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Even if the journalist recommends a better title their editor will just optimize it to be the best clickbait it can be. Ambiguity probably drives clicks due to sheer curiosity.Such is reporting in the digital world.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

As a 30 year old Midwestern woman, that sounds about right. I know a fair number of women in their 20s who would gladly call vice president Harris “daddy”

[–] midnight_puker@sh.itjust.works 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

By "call her daddy", do they mean that I am to contact her father, or am I to refer to her as daddy? 🤔

[–] silence7@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 month ago (3 children)

They're referring to a podcast named Call her Daddy

[–] eskimofry@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Worst name ever honestly. It sounds like a porncast..

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 1 points 1 month ago

I'm interested.

I'm not going to listen.

But I'm interested.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Yes but that doesn’t answer the question.

[–] midnight_puker@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, that much I was able to surmise.
