I’m missing something about incels and wasps

[–] Hoagie@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

A reference to WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestants), I guess since the incel and white supremacist movements overlap somewhat.

Not quite. It's a reference to fig wasps. They pollinate certain types of figs but can get stuck inside of/digested by the fruit as it forms in the process. On the diagram, the wasps incorrectly assumed something was a date (fruit) and landed on it presuming safety, but it was actually a fig so now are in the process of dying as they're slowly eaten by the fruit, hence "the dying gasps of wasps". It's a super obscure reference.

Incel/excel: how do I remove vertical bars?

Excel/fig: now how does this thing work again?

I like it, but is it programmer humor?

Edit: typos

For those that think putting anything in excel more complicated than =total(a1:a10) is programming

I don't like to brag but I've used the XLOOKUP function once or twice. B)

I once had to have a Skype call with a Google Docs extension dev because I broke their extension somehow. Lmao

They couldn't even tell me how they fixed it, they just fucked with it til it worked. I was using a spread sheet to keep track of Dr's appointments for a group home, but wanted to automatically export it to an individual's Google Calendar. I can't remember what was broken, but they ended up having to put in some crazy formula to get it to work correctly, when it should have been a pretty easy function.

If you mistake a fig for a date and vice versa, you haven’t tasted any. Hold on…..

Could you please help a fellow idiot?

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 year ago

There's a pun with date and fig, so the person eats a fig but thinks it's a date.
