As an Amurican, I hope all Europeans abandon Google and Facebook. Don't let these companies take your data.

I can see myself completely ditching Facebook, but Google ?

That's gonna be tough, that means ditching Maps, Youtube, Android and the pixel phone I'm typing on, Google Auth and many more things I can't be bothered to type.

I wish we could stop what these companies are doing with our data, but I'm not willing to abandon that much convenience.

Don't ditch your pixel, as you can replace the Stock Android on your phone with GrapheneOS instead. It's still android but more secure. Google Auth is probably one of the easiest to ditch. For something like Authy or Authenticator Pro, although you won't have to do that. Google's authenticator is good enough really, even from the privacy side of things. Maps and YouTube though? Those are indeed tough to leave behind.

Google Auth is about to get an "update" that seriously limits it use. By stopping it being tied to a single device and letting you Auth from cloud....they are basically removing the second factor from 2fa and just making it your Google password not somthing physical.

I just don’t understand why make a big privacy law like GDPR and then do a complete 180 and shit on everything.

Let's see how long it holds until it will be overthrown by the European courts ^^
