@MargotRobbie let the Barbenheimer begin!
Dammit I don't know how to mention someone.
The original tagline was "Now she is become death, the destroyer of worlds. He's just Ken."
"Barbie", in only theaters July 21st.
@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world … I think
There's a drive-in near me (what year is it?!) that does double-features and I really hope they do this one. They probably won't, due to distributor restrictions, but I can hope.
Cool. Couldn't decide if I want to see Oppenheimer or Margot Robbie's feet. Now I can see both. Win-win.
I don’t get the connection.
It's like when Doom: Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out at the same time. People find it funny when two disparate properties release at the same time in the same space. Especially in the movie theater where double features are not uncommon, there's a lot of people who want to see both and think the high contrast in tone and style of movies will make for an interesting experience.
Personally I anticipate Oppenheimer being a pretty bleak experience so going immediately to Barbie after will be a fun palate cleanser
I hope it’s bleak, not only because I like movies that are bleak but the subject matter should inspire fear. Nukes are terrifying.
That's the point. The release at the same time. The dark, challenging Oppenheimer movie about a serious topic and the Barbie movie. Barbie as a brand is perceived as simple and childish. And while the movie looks to be more, people got already a kick out of it when it was announced to run on the same day. So the joke is the contrast between these entirely opposite views on these two names.
Also Barbie being Barbie, she probably was a nuclear theoretical physicist at some point.
They come out on the same day
Clearly barbie is a product of nuclear falloff.
There's a part of me that wants to for the lulz
Odd combo. Which one do they show first, I wonder? At the end of the night you will take home either an unreasonably pink acid trip, or a friendly reminder of how dark humanity can be.
"Boppenheimer"
I'm down for Barbie, but as much as I love and trust everyone involved with Oppenheimer, I know how it turns out. I don't feel a pressing need to see it in a theater.
I'll wait for it to come to streaming and see it there. I don't know if I see myself sitting in a dark room with a bunch of strangers without all the at home amenities.
