ublock origin billy, never adblock plus!

[–] 14th_cylon@lemm.ee 67 points 2 months ago

You can literally pay adblock plus for whitelisting your ad.

If you want to make the world better place, look elsewhere.

I swear it's always Adblock Plus in memes about ad-blocking. Who makes these memes?

You can’t even donate to uBO or the filters from the uBO team. I think you mean EasyList.

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 71 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That's true - Raymond Hill, the uBO developer, doesn't accept donations or payment for his software. Truly a legend. I'd 100% donate to them if they accepted donations.

The meme is about Adblock Plus though which does have a paid tier. I prefer uBO myself, but if you are stuck with Safari then it's a legit option.

I'd 100% donate to them if they accepted donations.

If they accepted donations, you wouldn't want to.

The reason uBlock Origins surpasses all the others is because of who the lead dev is, what they believe, and why they do it. They are absolute hardline and believe in what they made. It's not a job.

You don't need to be that kind of person to be a good developer, but when it comes to something like an adblocker and privacy protection, you want people like him who won't falter or sell out. You want those true believers.

If he accepted donations, then he wouldn't be the kind of person that made uBlock Origins what it is.

Yes and no, if you have large-scale projects that require a ton of people, donations can be necessary.

Just because you take donations doesn't mean you have a profit motive.

[–] maxprime@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago

Yeah. To be specific, you wouldn’t want people to donate and expect a specific service. Or worse, donate in exchange for their site whitelisted.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 9 points 2 months ago

If you want to donate, send it directly to creators whose work you enjoy.

[–] doctortran@lemm.ee 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You're lying, because uBlock Origins refuses donations. They are adamant about the purity of the project.

Calm down buddy. It's just a fun meme. Read the comments for context.

I would buy YouTube Premium in a heartbeat if it wasn't by the morally corrupt Google (or any other from MANAMANA).

[–] theshatterstone54@feddit.uk 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Meta, Alphabet, Netflix, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, .... (what's the other NA)?

[–] antithetical@lemmy.deedium.nl 7 points 2 months ago

Ha, I had to look up the most up-to-date acronym on Wikipedia and found this one. They are NVidia and Adobe.

I quite like this one :)

Not for adblock plus please

[–] DebatableRaccoon@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

Oh yeah, no, absolutely not. I was going with OPs mention of uBO
