lemmy.ca has apparently opted to not federate with them. I hope many/most do the same.
Mastodon
Decentralised and open source social network.
That’s a mastodon instance?
Oh sorry. I should learn to read :) I'm posting via Lemmy. Unsure if they also do mastodon.
@steal_your_face
Not Mastodon, but supposedly built on ActivityPub and plans to open federation some time in the future.
fosstodon, their admin declined Meta's invitation
Fosstodon said they’re going to federate with threads and let the users block on their own :(
I don't think threads is going to federate with everyone. Likely they will have an application or something to selectively federate. It would be impossible for them to control the content.
In another post I saw this site which shows who’s defederating from threads and who’s not:
Why would you like to federate something that has practiced a "single/minimal domain fits all" ? (ads, scripts, media, trackers, etc. in a single fucking domain), that'll most likely to stress your instance/server and bandwidth since you cant segregate the stuff you only need. I know activitypubs runs differently but if they managed to put thier style of "single domain fits all" (its only a matter of time) then they could just easily inject thier stuff (ads, trackers or whatever the fuck they have) on your instance making your instance thier side bitch
¯_(ツ)_/¯
