Hey, I'm not sure if it's allowed to ask for help on hunting for specific files but this doubles up as a question about the best place to get books.

I've been looking far and wide for the renegade game studio's Transformers rulebooks and managed to find the core rulebook from some weird site but not from any of the book or torrent sites. But I'm still missing the accompanying books like the campaigns and the expanded character sheet journal. Could anyone smarter or more resourceful help me with this hopeless quest?

And also the last time I pirated books was so long ago that people were offering them on their own websites basically, what is the best place to find books nowadays? And is there a way to submit the rulebook file I found to book piracy site like library genesis? In case someone else comes looking for it as well.

Seconding Anna's archive. Amazing resource

AA working hard to keep quality content. Throw a few $$ their way to keep it going!

A new one for me - looks very interesting, thanks.

Library Genesis is the first place to check:

https://libgen.is

[–] LostCause@kbin.social 26 points 1 year ago (3 children)

In addition to Anna’s Archive, I also use libgen.rs, libgen.is, gen.lib.rus.ec (which I think are all the same site?) as well as zlib (ways to access on: https://go-to-zlibrary.se/#useful_link_tab), I can‘t find more than the core rule book on there though.

Follow-up comment: I noticed the onion link on that site isn't the same onion link that I'm using. Are there different zlibs or is it mirrored?

[–] LostCause@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I‘m not entirely sure tbh, I don‘t even remember where I originally got this link from, I just think it seems legit due to the updates etc. Maybe the onion link you have is a personal one or maybe they switch mirrors every so often. There is a few copycats around too you can find on Google, but with onion links its even harder to know what‘s up.

Not sure if this comment will be helpful (as I’m not proficient with this stuff) but I used to donate monthly to zlibrary and a few months ago they sent me a link stating that in order to continue to allow ongoing access, they were providing private links to people.

So it does seem like zlibrary provides individual links and I also know they have numerous sites at any given time, as it seems like their sites frequently get taken down.

Amusingly, when I went to check whether the two addresses were the same, they were. I totally thought they weren't. Maybe there's some magic going on.

But hey, as long as it works.

[–] brainstorm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

I knew about library genesis, and tried zlib yesterday after I found out it was back but sadly it didn't have these specific ones!

[–] seaturtle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I did a quick check of zlib (I think) and while I could find the core rulebook I didn't see anything else. However, I don't know the thing OP is looking for so maybe it goes by different names that I'm not aware of.

[–] brainstorm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

The other books are called

  • Transformers roleplaying game the time is now adventure book
  • Transformers roleplaying game beacon of hope adventure
  • Transformers roleplaying game expanded character sheet journal (arguably the most important one to find)

Also they're going to release a book called Transformers roleplaying game decepticon directive sourcebook in this September that I'll have to be on the lookout for

Gonna start looking for these today again with all these new resources recommended!

Thank you! I heard about Anna's archive some time ago and completely forgot the name and never found my way back.

IRC is where I get most of mine. IRC highway and evooks

[–] olicvb@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The Trove was a site where you could get a shitload of ttrpg content. But it got dmca'd and now only exists (afaik) as a torrent file.

[–] astramist@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 year ago

Might be helpful to someone: flibusta.is, flibusta.site, flisland.net. Flibusta is the largest pirate library in Russian.

Wild, MAM usually has most things but as far as this game is concerned it only has A Beacon of Hope. It must actually be pretty obscure to not exist fully there.

[–] brainstorm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If I'm googling correctly this is a private tracker? I don't think I'm able to get into many with my current setup but I'll try to go and see. Even one book would be forward in this project and they really seem to not be popular to share. (Makes one wonder how many people even purchased them lol, the game is not very good or coherent but I want to homebrew it into something that works and also have the files for the sake of completionism)

[–] Cqrd@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, MyAnonymouse is a private tracker for books and audiobooks. It’s probably one of the best private trackers for these things, though there might be a better one specifically for game-related books, I’m not sure.

MAM has occasional public applications, but you will be expected to share what you take.

This was the method that helped me find obscure stuff throughout the years.

It's also here in our new piracy community

I came here to comment this. It feels really esoteric but great selection!

[–] free@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Let us know if you are successful.

[–] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Other than Anna's, you might also try various aggregator Telegram groups. For instance: Book Box (https://t.me/webwaybooks) and The Amber Room (https://t.me/TheAmberRoom)

[–] nueromancer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you know any similar group in telegram?

[–] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] nueromancer@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Do you any groups that is for piracy in telegram?

[–] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

IIRC, there are literally thousands.

[–] talkingcat@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Also there is an IRC spot, there is a guide around I can't remember where

[–] brickfrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)
[–] talkingcat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Yes that's the one

[–] lortikins@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Also of note is that open books client mentioned in comments. Excellent software!

[–] TooL@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Irc is the route I've always gone. Irchighway is the server I use.

[–] seriousslayerguy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I use pdfdrive because I don't really know any other sites. Also I downloaded Brzrkr comics from 1337x(dot)to.

[–] theRealBassist@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

There do exist very very nice private trackers with robust communities.

There are a lot around, just do a search and you should find some!

[–] brainstorm@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago

I found one before and it didn't have what I needed and also so many rules that a casual pirate like me felt overwhelmed when I'm not able to leave my computer open to share around the clock. But maybe I'll need to look further into it

[–] eros90@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do you get invited to a private tracker?

[–] magamus@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Some have places on the page where you can apply for membership. Then just follow the instructions.

[–] lennvilardi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

And for French ebooks what’d the best places ?
