I find that if you're sparring with someone half competent you'll almost never be able to go to mount directly. If you try, you'll create so much space you'll end up in half guard at best.
Personally I find it a very versatile position anyways and I enjoy body surfing from it. For me it opens mount, backtakes, armbars, chokes and if you compete it's free points as well.
Against people 30kg heavier it's also a better position, imho, than mount but that might just be me.
