Of course. She was waiting for everyone to be distracted, and this was the perfect opportunity to do it with minimal pushback.

I don't think that was her thought process. This news broke into network programming (CBS, anyway) so people will hear it.

I think she's mad at the shooting so did it as a pro-Trump retaliation. More coverage here: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/07/15/us/trump-documents-case-dismissed

EDIT: I stand corrected! They're saying it is a 90+ page ruling so she didn't do it over the weekend. Maybe it was planned as a celebration for the start of the RNC?

Probably timed so they can say "he is being baselessly attacked, his case was thrown out!" as much as possible

For anyone still wondering is she was working for Trump or just grossly incompetent, here is the smoking gun.

Is it okay if I still vote for both of those things at once? Because she's been shockingly incompetent in cases that have nothing to do with Trump too.

It's obvious she's a Trump's stooge though. First supreme court nomination by Trump if he wins for sure. No surer way to fail to the top of a fascist kelptocratic system then by doing favors for the boss.

And her reasoning was, of all things, that the appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith was illegal. I would have expected her to say that relocating the classified docs to Mar-a-Lago was an official act, done while Trump was still President, but no. She based this idiotic decision on even shakier legal ground. Doesn't this mean that the appointment of Special Counsel David Weiss was illegal too? Shouldn't Hunter Biden's conviction be expunged, based on Judge Cannon's logic here?

She's creating the opportunity to take it to SCOTUS where they will make the appointment of any future Special Counsel illegal. The intent is not to be consistent and it doesn't have to make sense. Hell, it's even better if it doesn't make sense because this erodes the judiciary's legitimacy; two birds, one stone.

Americans are in very very deep trouble but they don't seem to care. The worst part is that the rest of the world will be dragged down with them.

Good point. Too bad nothing will come out of it.

So Trump had Judge Cannon in his pocket, and he has many judges in his pocket including most of the Supreme Court. He may not be richest or most skillful crook in the country, but he certainly knows how to play the system to his advantage.

There are many others pulling his strings

[–] ulkesh@beehaw.org 17 points 3 months ago

Maybe one day Congress will do their fucking job and impeach these sycophantic shithead judges.

[–] coffeetest@beehaw.org 14 points 3 months ago

That's fine, it was a forgone conclusion she would dismiss or delay it forever. We finally get the appeal.

Early signs of Project 2025?

[–] theangriestbird@beehaw.org 6 points 3 months ago

Trump's appointment of judges like Cannon was a preview of Project 2025.
