I tried about five different apps and Liftoff is the one I think I've settled on. It has the smoothest overall experience IMO and the most appealing UI. But Jerboa would be my second choice.
Jerboa
Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.
Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I tried out 3 apps total and even with it being a little stuttery, Jerboa has been my favourite so far. I like the layout of the interaction buttons for comments as well as the ability to jump from one comment chain to the next or previous.
I found Thunder to be a very smooth experience but really didn't like that you need to swipe comments to interact, and that the distance you swipe determines whether you upvote or downvote or etc. Perhaps there's a way to change that in the settings but I couldn't easily locate it.
Jerboa is great, but litoff performs better. I hope they optimize Jerboa a little bit more.
I'm just sticking with Jerboa I think. It seems to have everything I need. It hasn't crashed for me in awhile either.
Me too, it's my favourite for sure and I love that I can adjust the font of posts, avoiding eye strain!
I love how pretty much each and every comment section on posts about apps to access the Fediverse will always end up with people declaring their favorite app of the day! I mean this sincerely, because of that I kinda feel connected to most of you! It means we all are in some sort of griefing stage because most of us lost a reddit app we used for years (a decade even in my case. Rip RIF!). It also means most of you are hopeless nerds and I really appreciate that!
Excuse my little tangent!
PS: my favorite way of accessing the Fediverse is currently Wefwef but I still check out every new app I come across.
I like it a lot
Can you give a couple of thoughts on each of the other apps you tired?
