All roads lead to stealth archer….
But typically I like an assault rifle to “go loud” and then a suppressed sniper/scout rifle for the sneaky sneaky.
I’ll probably stick with pistols. As long as I can keep upgrading them so they can compete against enemies.
I’m a sucker for a good silenced pistols. I might try to make a “John Wick” build and try to stealth through dungeons with a silenced pistol until I inevitably get discovered and have to run and gun my way out.
I love pistols because they're pretty viable at most ranges and allow for a lot of skill expression. Headshots are generally the priority with them, where shotguns are more just aim for the body or just generally near them. It really depends on what we can do with them though and how much damage they do. I think generally in Bethesda game (with guns) pistols have been pretty solid, and they keep your weight down. Since we have a ship I don't know if weight is going to be as important though. I guess I'll just be waiting to see how it goes.
I like to limit myself to a realistic loadout for a challenge. That means a melee weapon (knife or hand-axe), a Pistol, and an Assault Rifle/Shotgun/Sniper, whatever the situation calls for.
This is what I typically do myself. I’ll probably mix up energy and ballistic ammo types to make sure that I can cover all my bases for enemy encounters.

In the fallout games, you often need to use longer ranged weapons. This having combat in bases and ships frequently, I'm thinking I'll focus on close range things more. Probably shotguns or SMGs, maybe pistols if they provide some kind of advantage. I doubt we'll really have to choose one type though, and I'll use whatever is best at that moment.
This is my thinking too. On a planet? Medium-long range. In a building or on a ship? SMG, pistols, shotguns. But, if it feels more fun to use a certain weapon regardless of the environment then I'll just do what seems the most entertaining.
Also we're forgetting about the space magic stuff that was shown in the Direct. Maybe a build for throwing people into the air and the picking them off like a duck shoot?
Oh yeah, I keep blocking out the fact were a space dragon born with space dragon shouts... I can't say I'm a fan of that. I'll have to wait to see what they do.
There's also a skill tree/trait that allows you to kind control alien creatures/animals iirc
Not sure how many weapons we can carry but normally a silenced pistol, a shotgun or assault rifle depending on indoors or outdoors, and a sniper rifle.
I already have ideas for something small with a fast ROF like an SMG or machine pistol character if it allows, as well as a melee plus force powers character since they teased some weird space magic in the Direct.
IIRC, I stuck with longer guns like rifles and machine guns in Fallout 4, and in Cyberpunk I focused on shotguns. I'm thinking I might try pistols to mix it up, stealth sniping, ooor maybe shotguns again and those multi-bullet laser targeted weapons that I can't remember the name of now.
Generally, I like melee weapons, assault rifles and shotguns the best, and it usually depends on the environment, so I don't know with this one. Zero G, low G environments, lasers, I'm excited to experiment.
I'm really hoping for good energy weapons and heavy weapons. I love heavy and energy weapons but they tend to be a mid or late game thing when I've already invested into rifles or something.
