Aww shit i just heard about that today. Kinda confused though, wasn't it started as an offshoot of Twitter? Is it no longer connected to them?

It’s created by the former CEO/founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey. It’s not connected to Twitter in any other way

Does this affect me being able to find someone on bluesky from my mastodon.online account or is bluesky not federated?

AFAIK, Blue Sky and Mastodon used different protocols (AT for Blue Sky and ActivityPub for Mastodon)
