Nexon has scummy monetization? Shocked

[–] DarkThoughts@fedia.io 20 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I feel at this point a lot of Gen Z isn't even aware of some of those companies that ruined the MMO market.

Yes, exactly this. I have a 20-something friend I made through online games who was trying so hard to get me to install this, and he had never even heard of Nexon.

not gen-z but I've never heard of nexon before

As a gen z myself, this isn't universally true. Some of us were around when Maplestory was big and remember the shit show when they ruined it. Also rip combat arms

The monetization is weird and not cool.

Still, it’s fairly neat and fun to play. It’s like a better Anthem without flying.

i tried it briefly yesterday and it was janky and took forever to load shaders with every region change

how do they monetise?

You have to buy new character classes with premium currency, and they're not what I would call "micro" transactions. Technically I guess you could earn them through play, but you'd have to willing to grind a lot.

Like WoW expansions?

thats ok. i dont need 100 characters.

let me guess, the costly ones are overpowered?

[–] Aphelion@lemm.ee 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, that seems to be what most people are saying.

I'm not touching that game personally: I read their EULA and it includes the sale of analytics data to 3rd parties.

i guess in order to make this kind of game you have to be a parasite at heart. the ever increasing assholery drove me away from destiny eventually haha

the community for that game was wild too, always defending yet another shameless money grab

The grind isn’t all that heavy for characters, you get a second one almost immediately and can get more just by reading where their parts drop. It’s faster than Warframe even

Almost everything?

And they do the multiple currencies thing.
