Don't have an Xbox but I remember these games really fondly. This looks cool, but like, kind of insanely polished for a Fable game? Interested to see what the vibe of the finished game is like.

So it seems we don't create our own hero? Which, I get that it would limit facial animations and dialogue, but becoming your own hero was such a huge part of Fable.

Anyway, it looks stunning, graphics-wise. I'm looking forward to it for sure.

Wait, fable has a feature to create our hero? I thought the hero was predetermined. Forgive my ignorance since I only ever played The Lost Chapter. I hope MS will give fable the Halo treatment so I could play the other series too.

In Fable 2 & 3 you could select the gender of your character, but that was it. Their appearance was then shaped by your karma etc. like in the first game.

The trailers have used a female hero as the stand in, which, for some reason, people have taken to mean we don't get to choose the gender or anything.

Ah, I thought it was like Dragon Age: Origins or even Skyrim. Because yeah, that is the Fable that I remembered. The appearance is affected by our action but we cannot create a hero to our liking.

Seems like they may be playing some kind of game with the language in the trailer, I'm not sure the "her" is the player character.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 0 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

That was pretty clear. The apparent player character was a misdirect. The figure that comes in at the end seems to be the "her" referred to, and potentially the main antagonist of the game. I'm sure, just like in all other iterations, you'll have a custom built player character of any sex/gender.

Curious if “Her” will be Theresa. It’s probably someone new but would be interesting if she made a cameo.

I think it might be that one woman in the trailer who says "I'm a Hero, why not do what I want?"

Definitely gave me selfish, villain-y vibes.

Although it could be she's like the Reaver of the new Fable.

Thats not how i took it. I think that hero he was referring to was actually the main villain of the series. The way he said "made all the wrong choices" was what clued me in.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

I assumed that he was referencing the morality mechanic that's been a staple of the game from the beginning. Be good, and you're revered. Be evil, and people will fear you. Also, your looks change to match, IIRC. "Really sticks with you."

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Thats true, I guess its probably intentionally ambiguous lol. I do hope we have some control over our appearance.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

its probably intentionally ambiguous

100% this.

Yayayyayayayyayayayay. I'm excited. The Fable games never felt truly finished and fully fleshed out, but I loved them all and played them so much.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world -1 points 4 weeks ago

The first Fable seemed right and polished but just ended too soon and need some endgame challenge.

This trailer is really bringing out the bigots, especially in the YouTube comments. It sucks that the gaming community, literally based on having fun, can be so toxic

[–] BleatingZombie@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm at work and can't watch the trailer. What is even there to be bigoted about?

[–] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a woman main character in the trailer. Some loud, annoying gamers have a problem with that. Also that she isn't super conventionally sexy, and is a representation of an average woman. And some people are calling her trans and not in a pro LGBT way.

Someone here made a comment about sweet baby inc, which is a company that works with game studios to help encourage diversity, which is apparently the end of the world for the people who call everything new "woke" unironically

[–] Cringe2793@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I hope we would be able to choose our main character though.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I played the first two games, and I watched the trailer.

What are the bigots whining about?

-oh look, there's one down below in the comments. I'll ask them.

Edit: I asked 'em, but I received no answers. One called me a slur, but I'm not sure what else I was expecting.

You want to know why but you didn't say why yourself.

[–] GeneralVincent@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah the bigots didn't ask me why I called them bigots. But I asked you. If they did ask, I'd tell them it's because of how they make fun of women and trans people for existing. But you didn't really care about that, you just wanted to start something. Not worth my time tho, goodbye.

[–] Mango@lemmy.world -1 points 3 weeks ago

Ah yeah, I thought we're just calling names. You set the precedent. I didn't see any of that shit you just mentioned.
