Been listening to the updates on radio - it's worrying.
My auntie went to Symi every year as a friend of hers runs a bar there and I know it gets really hot there and that, outside the towns and villages, it can be pretty isolated and rocky underfoot. I definitely wouldn't have gone strolling off on my own there as one slip can leave you at the bottom of a rocky slope in the baking sun.

He has had a weird amnesia attack before but Symi is pretty unpopulated and barren, so there just weren't many places he could have wandered off to.
