I don't know where this will lead with regards to the court, as some people say this was already dismissed in previous acquisition trials.

However, I know this is really bad for them at least in the court of public opinion. It seems like the last thing they needed was someone writing an email boasting about microsofts unending wealth and how it gives them a significant advantage.

Verge has done a great job of sensationalizing this email, the actual quote is a lot less of a gotcha than the headline represents
