Reminder this graph is now 8 years old... And we're still on current path basically

Yeah, nothing changed and we still have ignorant idiots who refuse to accept what Edward Teller (yup the dude fantasising about building the H Bomb in Oppenheimer) already warned about in 1957 ( Sauce )... And he wasn't even the first scientist to do so.

Ugh, I just had a spirited "debate" with my father about climate change, and I just can't handle his response, I want to post it so I can show what we are competing with.

"Lol very cute, but if you notice the earth has moved closer to the sun. Our universe is constantly moving there for change. We can be dealing with a natural change and not even know about it. It's easy to blame man, but the universe is a whole lot bigger than us. Love you both, Happy Easter"

Just no use.

This is where you disown them and move on with your life. Can’t fix stupid, but you can not reward it with your presence and maybe it’ll reconsider.

Gentle reminder that generally nothing happens when cutting specific people out of your life. If you want to make people change, having a connection helps more than anything else.

Gentle reminder, not everyone is capable of change. Put yourself first sometimes and move on to a less toxic life.

Big if true. But it’s not for me. Don’t let people you don’t live with get away with shit because you share ancestors or a past.

Even if it was a natural change, it's still really bad for humanity and requires immediate mitigation.

F to your dad :')

Jeez this is terrifying.

It looks like when a kid draws a straight line but loses concentration at the end.

[–] gerryflap@feddit.nl 3 points 7 months ago

Even worse is that this is from 2016, so we're 8 years further along and not enough has happened

I love this graphic, but it's a little outdated. that arrival of humans in NA can be pushed back to at least 20,000 ya. And we're probably already past the "best case" temperature shown here for 2100 (depending how you take averages, and how hot '24 is)

Seems Anno 2070 kinda nailed it with their Socialist Ecos vs Liberal Tycoons story

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Reminds me of Jeff Bezos wealth to scale except so much more depressing....

How anyone can see this image and not be immediately sobered is beyond my comprehension.

*could literally save the world

*buys the world's biggest super yacht instead

[–] Midnitte@beehaw.org 1 points 7 months ago

Think of how cheap all the land and new coastline will be once everyone is dead!

Could sail the world in the super yacht for pennies on the bottle cap.

One degree change in the last 100 years. The earth temperature increased by one degree from about 9750bc to 9000bc as well, but in a period 7 times as long!
