As the title states, I currently have cable but want to cut it. I dont watch anything live anymore aside for sports. I can't buy a sports package as the local pro teams are blacked out, and you must watch on the local channel. Are there any alternatives?

Why so many unhelpful comments here? I get it, you are not into sports, but some people are and want to enjoy them. No need to take a superior stance and tell us we are wasting our time by doing so.

.world defedirated from this community so .ml and hexbear trolls are looking to capitalize on that.

[–] pbjamm@beehaw.org 10 points 7 months ago

ah. Miserable people usually want to make everyone else miserable too. From now on I will just wish them all a good day. :)

No one from hexbear has commented on this thread yet.

Yeah I double checked too, but it is easier to just blame them for everything am I right?

Look at purchasing an IPTV subscription. It's like 2 to $3 per month for all of the US channels plus a bunch of international ones. Great for HD super bowl and stuff

Any recommendations for providers? Feel free to DM me if you're not comfortable posting here.

I would also like to know, also open to a DM...

I have had very bad luck with sportsurge lately. Ad loops, login requirements, and buffering. racereplay is still excellent but a much more limited selection of sports.

[–] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Oh for sure sportsurge is very much an…active experience lol.

[–] Heikki@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I will look into this too. Thank you

[–] pbjamm@beehaw.org 2 points 7 months ago

no hockey on racereplay :(

ironically it has been a struggle for me to watch hockey since I moved to Canada. Sportsnet+ is an outrageous price to watch out of market hockey games.

[–] Heikki@lemm.ee 3 points 7 months ago

Thank you. I will check this out.

Can you get local channels OTA with an antenna?

[–] Heikki@lemm.ee 9 points 7 months ago (2 children)

We get a few channels OTA with our antenna. Sadly, ice hockey is limited to Bally Sports, and baseball is only sometimes available on a local network that is not Bally Sports

For the NHL and MLB you're just fucked. Those leagues completely failed negotiations. Maybe Amazon picking up a big chunk of Bally's will get us our teams on Prime. Maybe.

In general, all the major sports leagues (except maybe Premier League) are firmly stuck in the past and view cable as great. Maybe we'll see some better options when each league re-negotiates the TV deals. But even when that happens, expect the NHL to fuck it up somehow.

expect the NHL to fuck it up somehow

Practically the league motto.

The Prem is an absolute shit show. You need USA, Peacock and then good knows what for some FA coverage. I tried peacock for the 3 months at like 1.99 and was very disappointed. So few games.

Streameast dot xyz has been my go to for hockey for years. Nhl66 dot ir as a back up

[–] PoliticallyIncorrect@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago

IPTV it's the most reliable solution in my humble POV.

[–] tfowinder@lemmy.ml 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Any alternative for F1 pls.

I know it's not on cable but still. :)

[–] pbjamm@beehaw.org 8 points 7 months ago

[–] GeekFTW@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 7 months ago (2 children)

thetvapp .to will have a good listing.

[–] djvinniev77@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 months ago

This is an amazing resource...

[–] Killerbee523@lemm.ee 2 points 7 months ago

Thank you so much for this!

IPTV is the way to go but I don't have any recommendations for IPTV providers.

[–] zjti8eit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 months ago

Vibox.tv and use Web Video Caster app on Android to cast to your smart TV

Grab a Chromecast or almost any cheap streaming device of your choice, Tivimate and IPTV. Find a really good reliable IPTV provider for your area and you won't really have issues.

[–] Gingernate@programming.dev 1 points 7 months ago

Any idea How to find a IPTV provider? Everything seems like a scam...

[–] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago

You mention Bally and baseball, mlb66 was my go-to last year.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca -4 points 7 months ago

Looking to drop cable? I haven't had cable since 2013 :/.

Life's better without.

That said I know someone with it and I use theirs for sports 🤣
