Harassing someone who has been fighting for a ceasefire. These kind of protestors don't realize how they only damage their cause by looking like extremists and idiots.

[–] juicy@lemmy.today -1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Asking our politicians to call a genocide a genocide isn't unreasonable. AOC should be ashamed.

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 months ago

One day old account intentionally misleading in its responses. 🤔 🤔 🤔

[–] Drusas@kbin.social 2 points 8 months ago

The congresswoman, who has been a strong advocate of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, insisted she had already denounced Israel’s actions as genocide and therefore the protesters’ anger was misplaced.

“I already said that it was and y’all are just gonna pretend that it wasn’t over and over again - it’s f---ed up, man,” she said. “And you’re not helping these people, and you’re not helping them, you’re not helping them."

Are you going to pretend to know what she has said at work?

[–] Hominine@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago (1 children)

This nonsense is replete here on Lemmy. These purity-test "liberals" are the snake eating its tail and it is more than gratifying to see a strong ally like AOC call this bullshit out. These reprobates do nothing for the Palestinian cause outside of stroking their own lazy egos.

Such liars are in my recent post history and I find myself gladly swatting them down; surely they will defend these selfsame tactics right here where they are laid bare...

[–] juicy@lemmy.today -2 points 8 months ago

God-forbid we ask politicians who pretend to be progressive to call a genocide a genocide. We're so far gone in this country that our so-called far-left politicians like Bernie Sanders won't even call for a permanent ceasefire. People are waking up to the depth of moral bankruptcy in our politicians across the board.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago (3 children)

These people don't care about Palestine. They are driven by their hate of liberals, women and Jews, and they are loving all this because they now have a mask they can wear and get cheered

[–] juicy@lemmy.today -2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

AOC isn't Jewish and Israel doesn't represent the Jewish people.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

You could have fooled me. Since they're protesting and harassing her, and since everyone on Lemmy and out protesting can't tell the difference between a Jewish person and an Israeli . The amount of anti semitism out on full force recently proves that

[–] juicy@lemmy.today -2 points 8 months ago

The Israeli government and their allies have deliberately tried to muddy the waters, calling any criticism of Israel antisemitism. But what is antisemitic is suggesting every Jewish person unconditionally supports every action of a colonial genocidal state.

[–] bigMouthCommie@kolektiva.social -2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

>They are driven by their hate of liberals, women and Jews,

i understand hating liberals, but there is no evidence of misogyny or antisemitism in this story.

[–] quindraco@lemm.ee 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (2 children)

That makes no sense. They targeted a liberal woman, why cherry pick her liberal status over her female status for their motivation?

Besides, neither makes sense. They went after one of the staunchest liberals in the House by claiming she wasn't liberal enough. That was false and therefore absurd, but there's no evidence they hate liberals.

Far more likely they're just unfathomably stupid.

[–] juicy@lemmy.today 1 points 8 months ago

Stupid people wanting their political representatives to call a spade a spade

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Cause these people protesting her aren't liberals. They're hard right Islamists who oppose Israel. Just because they are on the side you agree with, doesn't mean they're good people.

[–] juicy@lemmy.today 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

You mean they don't support the Zionist project to drive Palestinians off of their land and claim it for themselves as Israel has done since before the Naqba in 1948? And they want a supposedly progressive politician to call the genocide what it is? Wow, some nutjobs!

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The moment you say "Zionist" most people roll their eyes and know exactly what you're talking about. It's like when you refer to a black person as a "thug", we know where your mind is at. May as well go poke eye holes on a white sheet

[–] juicy@lemmy.today -1 points 8 months ago

They know I'm talking about the movement that got early inspiration from the Austro-Hungarian Jewish journalist Theodor Herzl in 1896 when he called for the establishment of a Jewish state in either Argentina or Palestine to escape anti-semitic persecution throughout Europe? The movement championed by American Protestant lay worker and businessman William Blackstone in 1891 in the petition he circulated, marking the beginning of the alliance of American Christianity with Zionism? Blackstone, who was motivated by the belief that the restoration of a Jewish state in Israel would signal that the rapture was imminent, and whose petition received the most pushback from American Jews?

They know I'm talking about the movement that was described by Zachary Lockman?:

Zionism shared the propensity of all nationalisms to ignore the rights, needs, and aspirations of those excluded from the national “family.” But it also partook of an available contemporary European discourse that delineated a certain set of perceptions of, attitudes toward, and relations with the African and Asian lands and peoples subject to, or now falling under, the economic and political domination of Europeans. That broader colonial discourse also drew on, and overlapped with, older European images and representations of “the Orient.”[6] With appropriate modifications, these systems of representation could be made to fit the specific situation of the Jews and of Zionism and could be applied to Palestine, just as they were at that same moment being applied elsewhere by other projects of European colonization and settlement that altogether lacked Zionism's origin as a response to a very real (and worsening) oppression in Europe itself.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world -2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

There's no anti-Semitism or misogyny in the anti Israel, Islamic world, is that what you just said? Lol

[–] bigMouthCommie@kolektiva.social 1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

no, you're putting words in my mouth. we are talking about this video ambush.

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 0 points 8 months ago

are you saying we didn't go to the moon?

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world -2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

The protesters in thus video are pro Islamist bigots

[–] bigMouthCommie@kolektiva.social 1 points 8 months ago

what makes you think they are bigots or even proislam8at. my impression is they are anti genocide leftists

[–] Binzy_Boi@supermeter.social -4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Because the right would support Palestine, that's absolutely how this works.

[–] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

If it was up to the right, Palestine would have been wiped off the map decades ago. Actually right around 9/11 when every American was standing behind bush and out for Muslim blood

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

I'm assuming sarcasm, and I'm puzzled why you are downvoted? Because 100% the right will NOT support Palestine.
But as a rule of thumb, sarcasm should not be assumed, so maybe you should be more clear?

[–] Binzy_Boi@supermeter.social 1 points 8 months ago

Was sarcasm.

Also can't see downvotes on my instance. Not sure why.

[–] donuts@kbin.social 0 points 8 months ago

Lemmy is leaking. lmao

ps: Hamas should free the hostages, stop hiding behind innocent people and accept the ceasefire deal.

[–] i_have_no_enemies@lemmy.world -4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

they were harassing her, these protests are nothing but an pro-islamist mob they need to be locked up

[–] Binzy_Boi@supermeter.social 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Agree with their protest or not, you can't "lock them up" for this. The video clearly shows a peaceful protest with no violence involved. Locking them up would violate their free speech rights.

[–] i_have_no_enemies@lemmy.world -4 points 8 months ago

harrasment is a crime
