Silver lining is that the CEO reaped what he sowed since he was on board as well. Still tragic though.

It feels like the Titanic is an irony magnet. It's like some cosmic force is still really salty that they called it an "unsinkable ship."

For example, some of the passengers on this missing submarine:

  • The founder of the submarine company who complained about safety regulations, now lost and trapped in his unsafe vessel.
  • The Guinness World Record holder for longest time spent traversing the deepest part of the ocean in a single dive will now likely be at the bottom of the ocean forever.
  • The director of the company who owns the salvage rights to the Titanic, the company that has brought many artifacts to the surface, now likely leaves its director on the ocean floor with the wreckage.

Wow. This is so macabre. Crazy to be following this story. Thanks for sharing these details.

Please do not forget there’s a father and 19 year old son onboard. They, the crew, and everyone else do not deserve to die.

Yes, that's why I said it's a tragedy regardless. The best outcome is a swift rescue and jail for the CEO.

I still can't get over the CEO's name.

Stockton Rush.

Sounds like something out of an Ayn Rand novel.

That and the name of the company already has the scandal suffix. Like it was just waiting to happen.

[–] snowbell@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

That is absolutely hilarious

This is a summary of the posted article (I'm a bot).

David Lochridge was terminated in January 2018 after presenting a scathing quality control report on the vessel. Lochridge’s report detailed “numerous issues that posed serious safety concerns,” according to a court filing. OceanGate sued Lochridge in June 2018, accusing him of sharing confidential information with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) The lawsuit was settled in November 2018; neither OceanGate nor Lochridge could immediately provide details of the alleged report or the reasons for his dismissal.

How do I work?

Youtuber Sub Brief (former naval sub officer) goes into detail about all the problems with not only the construction of the sub but the questionable business practises of the company.

The Titan Tragedy

Wow, that closing line is brutal.
Seems like a solid analysis

God this video is excellent, he presents what he knows very well, and I unfortunately agree with his consensus that the sub imploded.

[–] communication@beehaw.org 2 points 1 year ago

This was great, thanks!

If they are got into a situation where they are stuck and didn't have any think happen to life support or flooding, how long could they survive down there?

[–] SoLongThx4TheFish@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

I think the oxygen is down to less than a day now, starting from a best case scenario of 96h when contact was lost.

[–] Thedogspaw@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

[–] keeb420@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago
