Newly released video shows the moments when Los Angeles police opened fire on a man who as holding a plastic fork. The officers appear to fire several non lethal rounds as the man continued to move toward them. Officers initially responded to a 911 caller who claimed an armed homeless man was getting aggressive with an employee.

Can you blame them? Could you imagine if he was able to get away with killing them by letting them bleed out after taking 10 minutes to cause thousands of tiny puncture wounds without anyone that didn't have a gun being able to do anything about it?!

Do you know how many cops die from forkings every year? Well... neither do I, but it's probably a whole lot.

Typical anti-cop sentiment from around here.

Give them a break. They thought it was an acorn.

7 cops couldn't take down a little guy with a plastic fork without killing him? How embarrassing.

[–] kn33@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

But what if he poked them? That'd hurt, man. Can't take the risk.

The article says they fired non-lethal rounds and doesn't mention that he was killed. It's a rage bait headline. Not that I want to support cops, but I don't like falsehoods being thrown around

Watch the video next time, they shot him multiple times with "less lethal" rounds. He died from the injuries.

There are no such things as non lethal rounds.

It's a bad article and a bad video. The non-lethal rounds did not kill him. The video says an officer "opened fire", after the non-lethal didn't work and the man grabbed the other officer's weapon. Opened fire in this case means a standard firearm. Other actually good articles covering this make that clear. He was struck in the chest with an actual bullet fired from a hand gun.

I agree the cops should have handled it differently and fucked up as usual

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Fair enough. My only correction, again, is that there are no such things as non lethal rounds.

[–] RabbePompano@lemmy.world -1 points 8 months ago

That's what the article calls them. What do you call beanbag rounds and rubber bullets and stun guns? I see the term less lethal or less-than-lethal used.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

They literally start CPR on him at the end of the video and the bottom text says "killing of a man".

Hope much more clear do you want the fact that he's dead to be?

[–] octopus_ink@lemmy.ml 21 points 9 months ago

Well, he's poor, and that's about as good as being black when it comes to police interactions. I guess they'll find no wrongdoing.

That guy's a piece of shit and should be followed in public.

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 11 points 9 months ago

Why wasn’t there a good guy with a fork to stop him?

[–] guyrocket@kbin.social 4 points 9 months ago

Good thing it was a fork and not a plastic knife. Plastic knives ARE lethal weapons.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Makes sense. Officers like to fork, not get forked.
