I presumed this would be a radar layer feature. Instead it is essentially a widget shoved in. ๐Ÿ‘Ž

Something like this I guess. You can also add the air quality as a layer on top of GMaps. They probably didn't do it this way because "weather" has more than one variable. A rain-radar-layer would be nice though..

Does it offer any real benefit? I believe the info isn't localised and showing some sort of average data for that region

Bizarre that a Google product would get new features on Apple's platform first.

Different teams with different priorities. But I would've also assumed that they roll out features simultaneously on all platforms.

Now....how about the live widgets for ETA of points of interest?
