If you swipe left you get to Google News. Is it possible to replace this feed with another app? Maybe an independent news service?

If you can turn off swipe left to Google news, get a RSS feed reader, put a full screen widget on page one and all your apps on page 2. Make page 2 your default for home.

Yes, that's probably what it will come down to. Thanks.

Kinda miss the old Google logo, it reminds me of the pre-enshittification internet but that was never meant to last anyways...

I think so. I mean, it depend what phone or more specifically what launcher you use.

That I need a launcher is clear to me. But which app then offers its own feed that I reach by swiping left?

[–] Soullioness@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh, I understand now. All I know is Google and Samsung but there surely are more. Sorry I don't know.

LibreChair launcher had that but its had no updates since 2019 or something

Thats so dad. Lawnchair was my goto launcher for so many years. I had no choice but to revert to Nova

[–] InfiniWheel@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Oh, no. Lawnchair has been back for a while now, they are rebuilding it from the ground up and deliver updates through their Telegram channel, though it still lacks a lot of the old features. LibreChair was a fork of the old LawnChair that aimed to replace the google centric features.

I'm unsure whether a drop-in replacement exists. I use Lawnchair. It doesn't have the newsfeed when swiping left, but if you're okay with changing your flow a bit it could be good (enough) for you. You could create something with widgets (or maybe plugins) that replicate what you currently have.

Interesting thought. I haven't thought of that yet.

Personally I use the news widgets from Stock Widget app. You cannot choose the news source but instead you can specify the topics you like by addit some keywords.
