I thought with all the drama and negativity it would be good to take stock of some positive things people got from Reddit. One of my faves was reading Woody Harrelson's crazy trainwreck AMA

Downvoting EA's "sense of pride and accomplishment" comment to oblivion was quite satisfying

We got someone doing the lords work copying some of the crazy stories from Reddit over at !archive@lemmy.world

Worth a look as long as you have a strong stomach because of some of those legendary stories (Swamps of Dagobah comes to mind)

The first /r/place was seriously one of the coolest and most chaotic things to watch unfold in real-time!

I wasn't there when it happened, but the second r/place was amazing. The best experience I had on Reddit by far. I hope cool stuff like that also happens here on Lemmy

The askreddit thread where someone asked for advice about going clubbing, and every reply was just explaining how to club a seal to death.

The hilarity of celebrities doing an AMA and instead treating it as a typical β€œinterview”. I think it was Woody Harrelson trying to do an AMA but specifically only wanting to discuss his movie? Reddit of course asked about everything but that

There is always a live discussion thread in r/shudder every Friday when The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs is running new episodes in early summer. There's usually like 100-150 people participating, but there is a core group of I'd say 20 of us who've been there every single time since 2018/2019.

The composition of the participants all seem to be primarily 30- and 40-somethings who grew up watching Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater or MonsterVision. There's a special vibe in that space I don't experience elsewhere. There's a discord watchalong every week, and folks also live tweet, but the Reddit live discussion crew has its own energy that I super appreciate.

Let's hope similar cultures pop up here too. I wonder of some of that just takes time. This reminded me of refreshing r/freefolk and other Game of Thrones subreddits during live airings of the latter seasons, and the jokes and stuff was fun to see unfold, with years of folded in memes and in-jokes. Good times.
