Looking to migrate off of spotify. I will miss it for suggesting new songs and keeping up with new releases. What do you use to stay up to date, but off of paid services?

Bonus points for: a way to get my playlists/liked songs off of spotify :)

Jellyfin server that streams to my iOS Finamp app.

Music collected using Lidarr from the Servarr automation suite. https://github.com/Servarr/Wiki

Only service I'm comfortable paying for is my VPN, provided by Proton VPN.

Personally, I'd use Bandcamp. It's mostly indie artists, but there's a lot of good stuff on there. However, you can only play a song so many times per month before you need to buy it, but once you do that you own that song and can download it as an MP3 or FLAC. I also still use CDs.

Then there are the streaming options:

  • MusicPiped is an alternative frontend to YouTube Music.
  • Nuclear is a desktop app which pulls music from YouTube, Bandcamp, Apple Music and others.
  • Olivia is a better desktop app, which does sort of the same thing
  • SpoTube is another option, but I haven't tested it. However, it can access your Spotify playlists.

Lidarr to manage. This is where you'll visit for new release info. Use its integration with usenet/torrents if you're okay with piracy.

For listening (applicable whether you pirate or not) I use airsonic. Much more complex/nerdy than spotify though.

Well, ViMusic uses YouTube Music except that it's free. Available on fdroid.
