Here's everything we know about it so far:

  • It will use ActivityPub.
  • It will be a side app of Instagram.
  • It will most likely be called Threads.
  • Your Instagram verification status will transfer over.
  • There will be easy discovery tools in place: Your Instagram followers will be able to follow you on Threads as well (they won't transfer over automatically).

What do you think?

I have 0 trust that Meta can properly moderate their new platform, I'll stay as far away as possible

[–] Frederic@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

nope, I never joined or went on Twitter

[–] lavendedreams@waveform.social 3 points 1 year ago

Absolutely not. I dislike how much of my data I gave them over the years that I used Facebook. Don't want to start giving them that data again.

In the end it is just choosing a different overlord.

Hell no, I will never touch a Facebook product as long as I live.

I would if I were them. I've checked out of Twitter a long time ago and just have ig for the small cases information is only available there. I won't join, but if they wanted to do something like Twitter the time is now.

No. Never had a Facebook account, not interested in the slightest.

I'm sticking with facebook because there's no limitation in the type of content I can share

I will probably test it out to see it, but I doubt I’ll use it for long.

My Twitter was pretty small and mostly just friends and news organizations that I followed, then I pretty much abandoned it for Mastodon. I “use” Facebook but mostly just to lurk and see pictures of friends’ kids.

Hard pass. Twitter is a toxic cesspool and this one will no doubt turn out the same. The fact that it's Meta is an even bigger turnoff.

Nope. I am done with anything corpo at this point

I never had any desire or need for Twitter in the first place, so no. Corporate or not, I just don't get what people like about that style of social media.

Ignoring my general problems with Meta, I find Instagram very clunky in general. Pass.

Remember when Google used XMPP? The history repeats itself.

I currently only use Meta products for marketing and because other people I know use it most.

I do wonder how this will shake out. While I personally won’t be participating, lots of my friends (older gen z) deleted/abandoned their twitters but kept instagram. Some of them even use that little “status” thing that can show up on the top of your messages.

I will likely snipe my username and that's about it
