Asked the same thing, answer is that Comments are currently set to Hot by default in Jerboa, though the ability to change it is on the way

Give it time. The community was very small for a very long time. There wasn't a big need or push for detailed mobile functionality.

The ruins of Rome are never as cushy as the empire. But give it time. Pizzas on the way brother.

I've been scrolling through a couple communities and get to the end pretty quick. Then realize over half the posts are the last two days.

I don't think there is a way to sort comments yet. It doesn't seem to matter what I do comments are always random for me.

You can "globally" change your comment sort. From your main feed (not in comments):

Hamburger Menu > Settings > username settings > Default Sort Type

That's the sort option for the feed and not the comments.
