I have no legal knowledge, could this be a ploy to buy more time? Or a sign that even his lawyers think his case is hopeless?
The full quote is interesting, they kinda double down
It has been an honor to have spent the last year defending him, and we know he will be vindicated in his battle against the Biden Administration’s partisan weaponization of the American justice system
Now that the case has been filed in Miami, this is a logical moment for us to step aside and let others carry the cases through to completion. We have no plans to hold media appearances that address our withdrawals or any other confidential communications we’ve had with the President or his legal team.
I also don't have legal knowledge, but considering this is a federal case, I wouldn't have thought that the case being filed in Miami would make much difference. At the very least if you were extremely confident in the case I think you'd make every effort to stay involved.
I don’t know if I’d call that doubling down. For them to come out and say anything that could be construed as disparaging or even hinting that Trump is guilty here would be extremely unprofessional (they’re job is to represent the client), so this is a pretty boiler plate resignation message.
The real message is in the timing. Leaving your client hanging with just a couple of days before the hearing speaks volumes. Whatever the conflict or disagreement that existed here, it was big.
I'd mostly agree, but I'd say that there's a bit of a spectrum. They could have said "it's been an honor and we know he will be vindicated against these unjust charges" and I think that would have been sufficiently professional in my opinion. Going on to question the integrity of the justice system itself with "partisan weaponization of the American justice system" is beyond what's necessary to me.
Teflon Don awfully sticky lately
