I'm probably not going to get rid of my reddit account entirely, at least not until I get some better means of reading the news. Definitely not using it on mobile though, the official app is atrocious
My last account is still open but I've deleted everything on it... I want to delete it on June 30th. You know... to send a message. lol.
I'll probably not. Regardless of their current decisions, old reddit posts help a lot when my browser just won't give me a straight answer
Strongly considering it. I requested a dump of all my posts & comments there (going back to 2005!) and expect to be pulling out of there at the end of the month if this absurd situation isn't resolved.
You can request a dump of all your Reddit data here under EU GDPR or California CCPA.
I can't because there are no bulgarians on lemmy, I need r/bulgaria
I deleted all of my posts and comments from my 8 year old account today. Just need to 'export' saved videos and articles to some other apps and then I'll delete the actual account.
I deleted the apps on my phone and my ipad so I don't get any push notifications. I will probably only post on here. There are some communities I kinda rely on when it comes to information, tutorials etc. that are not really existing here. So I'm trying to kinda slowly move everything over here as far as I can do that. Hoping that more and more communites will be coming over too.
I honestly prefer the interface and how clean everything is here. Makes me wanna use reddit as little as possible lmao
Did it yesterday, and also removed all my comments and posts, but I didn't post that often - I have probably made 30-40 comments and posts in 2 years. However, I still use Reddit on my phone with Relay but logged out. When Reddit shuts down its free API I'll probably switch fully to Fediverse.
I have. And i would love for it to be permanent, but that's going to depend on if Lemmy continues to build content. At the end of the day, I like this platform but without content I won't stay. Current momentum is looking fantastic though, and I will continue to comment and add my pieces!
Haven't gone scorched earth yet. Don't think I will, but I'll think twice before going back on the site. There's some things that are valuable, and I'll wait and see if they even stay valuable.
I nuked both of my alts, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on the 10 year old main account yet.
Maybe once I get the rest of my recipes and stuff over here I'll scorch the earth, but there are still too many memories in there.
Just deleted my 5yo account. But it wasn’t that hard since I mostly lurked.
I have too much history on Reddit to want to delete my account, I just intend to use Lemmy instead going forward
Maybe I'm being naive, but I still have some hope that the blackout will cause Reddit to reverse their decision, or at least be open to re-negotiating with the 3PA devs. I'm exploring alternatives either way.
I cleared my post and comment history. I probably will delete my account after the free API shuts down.
Haven't pulled the plug fully. But all my posts and comments are now deleted. I think I'll be checking infrequently after the blackout just to see where they end up. Maybe then I'll delete the account too.
Just waiting for the Spez AMA shitshow and them I'm out
Just did it, no ragrets
Not yet. I'm waiting to see if Reddit will send me my data. Then, even if they don't, I'll delete my posts and comments by the end of the month.
Defaced my old account and created this one. Not deleting just yet as I want my deface comments to inspire others to leave
i deleted it when they got rid of chapo lol 🤷♀️
i feel like my decision has been vindicated
I'm exploring my options.
As long as old.reddit exists and there is a large community, I'll be 'stuck' with Reddit. I'm not there for the platform - I'm there for the people. I'll go where the people go.
As far as mobile usage goes, I don't know. Without an 'Apollo for Lemmy' or 'Lemmy is Fun' - I'm hanging around waiting for something to happen.
Reddit is the longest I've had a social media account after Facebook - pushing my 12th year. And I've participated in a lot of social media and message boards that came and went.
In my experience, websites sites die quickly when leadership prioritizes scraping profits over a user experience. And look, I completely understand and respect that companies need to earn revenue. However, it's a two-way relationship. Users will always flock to a more streamlined and accessible experience.
It's why Pandora > Shoutcast/iTunes Radio. It's why Spotify > Pandora. And it's why Netflix > Blockbuster. It's why after years of using Fark.com for news engagement, I joined Reddit. It gave me a far superior experience (not that Fark was ever bad).
I really like Lemmy. And I like the concept of federated spaces. But whether or not the concept is a big enough draw is really to be determined - especially without knowing what the mobile experience looks like.
All this to say.. I'll delete my account when it's no longer relevant. If I can get truly unique food and drink recommendations for my local city here, with enthusiastic participants all joining in the conversation - that's what I'll need to bury the past 12 years of online activity.
I had been without a Reddit account for a while using Infinity (3rd party app) without being logged in. I didn't care about being able to post of comment but it's much more fun on Lemmy! Lemmy is much nicer than Reddit in my opinion and I'll end up stopping using Reddit completely
I will delete it when Sync for Reddit cannot be used anymore. But I will stop using reddit anyway
Deleted Reddit Sync app off my phone. This will drop my Reddit activity 99.99%. Keeping account in case I need to look something up down the road.
I've been banned from reddit like a bazillion times.
I have no such weakness.
I removed all my posts and comments but kept account alive, at best I'll be lurking.
I have deleted Apollo off of my phone, but I plan to still use the few tiny sub reddit communities that I enjoy. However, I am actively avoiding r/all and major subs that are just meme factories.
I did - this rings too reminiscent of Twitter for me. I really dislike the native app, and the desktop app is all but unusable on my devices (why? I have no idea, we’re talking recent MacBooks with the m-series processors and gaming PC’s…). I also really dislike ads, and while I think there were options available to pay Reddit for no ads (premium?) it didn’t feel like my subscription money was going to the right place since Reddit is all user generated content. Unlike platforms like YouTube, where the users who create the content openly discuss how their revenue is generated, I’m not even sure the money I would pay to Reddit for premium would benefit the content creators on their site. So yeah, I’m really not going to struggle to use Reddit anymore. RIP Apollo.
My plan is to drop and delete Reddit on June 30th.
What I have not figured out yet, is where to post my goodbye. Any ideas?
Just deleted 1 of my 2 reddit accounts.
This one was 11 years old. Once I get my requested account data downloaded for my 14 year old account, it's gone.
Not quite, but I also don’t really want to go back to reddit. I’m seeing some great alternatives on the rise, so I can sense I’ll be deleting the profile at some point. Just haven’t pulled that trigger yet.
me! i used power delete suite to ensure that all my posts and comments were also deleted beforehand :)
Planning on deleting my alt accounts, however I'm not going to delete my main account, I will just programmatically delete all my posts and comments.
I suspect that deleting accounts won't be what Reddit is looking at anyway, all they'll care about is ad revenue, and my accounts which were not generating any revenue will not bother them in the slightest.
Editing and deleting comments is about taking some life, interactions and knowledge off the platform so it will lower the value of the platform. Deleting knowledge off the internet isn't something i endorse, but everyone can decide for themselves.
Deleted my posts, deleted my comments, account will be active until the 30th then I’ll probably delete that too.
It sucks - I had some 20K comment karma on about 2000 posts over 13+ years - but they’ve burnt that bridge and I’m not giving them anything back.
If I need to create a burner account at some point down the road then that’ll happen but I just don’t want to engage with it any more.
