Not my favorite genre, but I do like Tekken, Dead or Alive, Soul Calibre, Virtua Fighter, Battle Arena Toshinden, Fighting Vipers, World Heroes. Mostly I am attracted to a game for cool characters and fighting styles more than the actual fighting, if that makes any sense. Oh, does Virtual On count? 😋

I feel this, and I actually feel a little bit petty realizing that SF6 doesn’t have any fighters or attacks that seem visually interesting to me. It seems to be doing so many other things so well that it’s a strange sticking point.
I've always liked the idea of fighting games (depth, strategy, persnickety nonsense) but they've never clicked. Street Fighter 6 has changed that, though. Falling into a reaaaal hole with it as I try and figure out how to play Chun-Li.
Niiiiice! Glad it's working out for you! I think a lot of people are having this experience.
As of last week I do, simply because SF6 has really captured my heart. The modern controls allow me to still pull off some cool moves, but give me a chance to focus on building fundamentals. I don't want to grind away in the lab mode for 1934589 hours. I want to learn by doing. I'll never be hyper competitive, but I have won a few matches online and now I have the bug.
I love fighting games, even if I've never been particularly good at them. It's the character designs, music and stylish presentation in games like Strive, SF6 and Skullgirls that do it for me. I try to introduce my friends to the genre any chance I get but most people find them intimidating. Can't say I blame them, but I think that SF6 will bring some new blood to the community.
And I've unfortunately found a lot of ignorance and bigotry in fighting game spaces, like in other exclusive Ur-Gamer spaces. I think with more notable queer and trans players in the scene though, things are changing.
Edit: I'd definitely join a FGC on Beehaw if such a thing appeared. Also I play on Steam!

I think that's true for the bigger franchises, unfortunately. But honestly, the Guilty Gear (mostly Strive, I suppose) and BlazBlue communities tend to be pretty chill, from what I've found on reddit.
Also, hello, fellow Millia main (if I'm guessing it correctly through your username).
Yup! And here's a cosplay I did of her at MAGfest this year:
That looks awesome! I hope you won't mind me asking but where did you get the coat and the fur hat? Also love the Testament with the umbrella as a replacement for the scythe.
I got the whole getup from EZCosplay except the boots and tights. And yeah I didn't know them but they looked awesome!
Yeah! I'm middling at best, and Street Fighter is my game, been having a lot of fun with the new one. Always down to try others too. As another commentor said, the salt/toxicity/gatekeeping aspects that can creep into some of these sweatier communities I dislike. Fostering a welcoming inclusive environment is something that's important to me too
I grew up not really "getting" fighting games but in the last few years I've really gotten into them in a big way. Been playing some SF6 recently but my true love is Guilty Gear. GG Strive is what got me into fighting games as a whole and taught me what okizeme and plus-on-block mean.
Lots of Smash fans here looks like, I also enjoy smash bros but if we do have a general FGC it might be better to separate them just so that the two communities don't run over each other. Smash is incredibly popular but it doesn't have a whole lot in common with other more traditional fighting games.
Soul Calibur is my jam. That, and Mortal Kombat. Never played competitively, I'm not that good. Just good enough to beat all my friends, lol.
Absolutely trash at Smash, though. I don't think I've ever won a single game.
Fighters are fun! I played in a some melty blood tournaments a few years back, never got higher then 3rd but I was happy with myself haha. Moved to +R for a bit and playing street fighter now whenever I have a minute. Really well made game, I hope it gets more people pass the intial learning wall...I've seen so many people give up on it and it's hard to blame them without good tutorials, but it seems sf6 is doing a good job at changing that
I'm really into fighting games, and they're basically all I play now. Since SF6 came out, it's basically my main game now.
Been playing them since SF2. I hope more of the FGC comes over!
Hello lemmy gamers! Curious who’s around here – anybody play fighting games?
Yes! I play mostly Guilty Gear Strive (although my favourite GG is Accent Core +R, closely followed by Xrd Rev 2) and now, Street Fighter 6. I've also dabbled in Tekken, King of Fighters, BlazBlue and a little bit of Soul Calibur 6.
I'm not very good at them but I'm always up for some games. I just love the overall design and mechanics of fighting games. Oh, and combos. I'm one of those weirdos that likes to spend hours in the lab practicing combos instead of going online.
My mains, if anyone cares to know:
- Guilty Gear (all of them): Millia Rage
- Street Fighter 6: Cammy
- BlazBlue Central Fiction: Kokonoe
- Tekken 7: Lidia
- King of Fighters XV: Joe, Vanessa, Luong
- Soul Calibur 6: 2B
I’m mostly into Tekken (and play it competitively), but I’ll dabble in most fighting games here and again. Would it be reasonable to have a community specifically for the FGC around here?
I guess if it gets big enough here, sure, it warrants its own community. For now, I think it's fine if a few posts show up in this uhh...sublemmy?
I made a placeholder of r/Kappachino for FGC shitposts and whatnot: https://lemmy.world/c/kappachino.
Nice to see someone from the FGC here!
I didn't visit Kappachino much, to be honest. But it was really useful if you wanted to get information on ongoing and/or upcoming tournaments. Still, it's nice to know someone there's a Fediverse version out there.
I've played a lot of games off and on over the years, but my main two are Skullgirls (Val/Robo/Para) and Them's Fightin' Herds (Velvet).
I've gone ahead and made https://kbin.social/m/fgc here, get the ball rolling on that.
I'm down to play Huge Tekken fan also Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat always down to play.
I was pretty good at SSBU, but probably haven’t played in two years though. I’d join an FGC if there’s one in the future!
I’ve dabbled off and on over the years. A little Street Fighter, a little Guilty Gear mostly. Currently don’t have anywhere to keep a fight stick out, so haven’t really been into it for a while. :(
I liked Tekken 7, but didn't have anyone to play with really. My favorite artistic style is the French Bread fighting games. Their characters are pretty stand out too.
Currently don't have my hotbox, so i can't be grinding out combo trials and trying to figure out which character i vibe with most in SF6
I think they're fun, but I am terrible at any kind of competitive play. I just occasionally hang out in FightCade to watch SSF2T matches.
Always wanted to but never really clicked with any fighting games that I picked up. Gonna try SF6 soon and see if that changes things! I liked Modern controls more than I thought I would.
Nah, I'm too awful and get tired of losing
They really do require a certain sort of attitude, you have to be okay with getting your shit kicked in 342 times before squeaking out a win. Although good matchmaking helps alleviate this a bit.
