For me it's
- /r/selfhosted
- /r/home server
- /r/3dprinting
Relaxed section for discussion and debate that doesn't fit anywhere else. Whether it's advice, how your week is going, a link that's at the back of your mind, or something like that, it can likely go here.
Subcommunities on Beehaw:
This community's icon was made by Aaron Schneider, under the CC-BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
Something social, and positive. Like r/roastme had a opposite one called r/toastme. Rather then burn and roast OP, you gave them compliments. It was a positive thing to see.
Oh yes please. Cheering people on, giving them a new lens in which to view themselves, or just a moment of attention all for themselves, brings me joy. Good suggestion. What would it take to make it?
Perhaps a community for people over 50. (Asking for a friend. Honestly.)
Media-related communities such as r/plex r/sonarr r/radarr plus the other *arrs and related like plex meta manager
I would personally like a fine art related community. Something for critique and discussion of art and art history. It seems like many places I’ve been before turn their nose up at anything abstract or outside the realms of traditional western art.
r/outside, r/publicbsod, r/wildlinuxappears, r/cyberdeck, r/WritingPrompts, r/ChatGPT
r/vegan
And in no way, am I saying I would like to recreate that community, but a vegan friendly space with Beehaw's core values, just sound amazing to me. r/vegancirclejerk was great too, but I had personal issues with the mods.
r/LiveFromNewYork, r/whatcouldgowrong, r/sploot, r/greebles, r/blep, r/GooglePixel
Off the top of my head communities like
r/3rprinting r/instantpot r/todayilearned r/therewasanattempt r/space r/changemyview r/unpopularopinion
I always liked r/the10thdentist better than r/unpopularopinion, because it did a better of job of having actual unpopular opinions rather than 'opinions that make people angry' or 'popular opinion that opposes this other popular opinion'.
Not that this matters here.
Sidenote: I wish I had an emoji button here on desktop, like I do on mobile. I know a lot of people don't care for emoji, but they're nice to have, seemingly even more popular with younger users than with millenials, and probably a good thing all around to have as an option if what we want is more people using Lemmy.
On Windows you can press Win+. to add emojis to most text fields.
/r/chaosmagick
Something akin to /r/CharacterRant with interesting critique and analysis of media. Most of the same rules would apply and as long as people don't get into flame wars it would be a great fit for Beehaw. It would require a good bit of moderation, though.
local geographic area. ought to be easy to create and find users. useful too!
r/babybumps, r/financialindependence, r/benignexistence
/r/guitar, for those of use who struggle (and suck) at self-learning this amazing instrument.
A “Frets” community would be great, for all the fretted instruments to hang out.
Edit: !guitars@lemmy.world brand spankin’ new
DIY music making using DAWs (digital audio workstations). My personal preference being Reaper for its flexibility and low cost.
lemmy.studio might be of interest? That instance is still growing for sure!
I'd like to see a community specifically dedicated to tabletop RPGs. Don't think I've seen one of those yet.
Tabletop has what i see as 3 main variants which are rather separate communities:
Each has a gazillion little subdivisions, and there's related interests like miniature painting, terrain building, sculpting and others, but i guess a "tabletop" community would do until we grow more
For me it's all the photography-related communities. Photography, Cinematography, Analog, & Astrophotography are the primary ones.
I'm not sure if it's within scope of beehaw, 'cause I know that the meme page here already asks for people not to upload images directly to save server space (which I totally respect) but I really lurked and enjoyed r/egg_IRL and r/traa and I'm definitely keeping my eye out for where the trans meme share lands.
I was really enjoying r/me_irlgbt lately. And r/traaaaaaannnnnssss (definitely the wrong number of letters here).
I agree the trans memes are valuable, especially these days. They're a hopeful spot in a dark world rn.
Edit: I like r/egg_irl too but it does sometimes have a tendency toward some problems with people calling other people eggs who might not actually be eggs, instead of just talking about themselves. The effect being a weird roundabout gender roles policing.
Yeah, definitely the downside of that community. I'm definitely there for the personal 'this was/is my journey' egg memes, call outs about 'egg like behavior' aren't ok.
Game related communities (/r/tf2, /r/chess to name a few!)
Edit: Just realised I want some tech-related stuff like /r/homelab, /r/selfhosted, /r/privacy, /r/homeserver and more too
Same, but I have a feel that Beehaw might not be the place for them considering just how many communities we'd need to cover all of them. I'm really hoping a gaming instance pops up soon that we can federate with, I wanna my r/guildwars2, r/warframe, r/stellaris and others to see the updates and memes
Hi there! r/Warframe will have an official home at https://dormi.zone/c/warframe!
(Please tell me you can see posts and comments on here, federation with other instances has been very spotty for me so far)
