Is this seriously an 8/4 with no drawbacks (being legendary doesn't count) for four mana? What the fuck is happening to this game?

Seriously. An 8/4 for 4 mana is already very good, being in green for easy trample and being outside of lightning bolt range. So a blocking creature and a lightning bolt will do the trick but then the opponent gets another attack phase with all his creatures??
When does damage clear? If it survives the first combat phase, you just win, right? Like, this only stops when the opponent has no blockers left?
Anzrag will keep the damage from previous combats on the same turn. But there's no incentive to block it one creature at a time. If you can put enough power in front of it to kill it, you should do so immediately. If you can't, you're going to lose all your untapped creatures, and shortly thereafter, the game.
I guess there will be times when you can just take the eight damage (plus whatever other attackers are coming in) and then win on the backswing, but I doubt that'll be the most common scenario.
Does this card seem strong enough to see play in many formats? Obviously, the body is ridiculous, and the main question is whether or not it affects things immediately or not. I want this to be good, but without any evasion, this might only be so-so.
In standard I don't know. The rest of the formats, I don't think it is good enough. No hast, no etb or dies effects. 'Just' a gigant body that can't be chump blocked.
You only get two attack phases, right?
By the wording on the card it almost seems like every time it's blocked you get another attack phase. If that's true than it's insanely over powered.
'Whenever' always hint at the fact that it can happen multiple times. Stuff that only trigger once are usually written as 'when'.
The (somewhat) balancing factor is, that it is unlikely, that a creature with 4 toughness can attack and be blocked multiple times without dieing. Why would an opponent keep creatures back from the first block? It can obviously happen through combat tricks. But I don't see more than one additional attack phase happening very often.
As long as Anzrag keeps getting blocked, you keep getting more combat phases. There is no hard limit
