There's a very good post from the RedReader app developer (another open source Reddit client) about this issue for their app: https://old.reddit.com/r/RedReader/comments/132qkb8/update_2_reddits_proposed_api_changes_and_the/

you will probably need an API key in order to access reddit through 3rd party apps. That key will likely need to be purchased from reddit.

I am solely using Infinity. I buyed it form Play store to support the development. I don't want another closed source (untrustworthy) app on my phone. Maybe we can use individual API keys for accessing Reddit. (And have Lemmy access in the same app)

I love Infinity and will really miss it. I understand that Reddit is a business and wants to turn a profit , and I'd be willing to pay for Infinity so that Reddit could get their money but it looks like what Reddit is asking is just completely unreasonable

Libreddit for browsing and Teddit for media download. I rarely use reddit directly, unless to post something, which is even more rare. I hope they keep the json API intact, but that's a big IF.

But with federation coming to discourse, I'm ready to leave reddit for good.
