Logged out every time I revisit? (lemmy.ml)

If I leave the site and come back the next day, I always have to log in again. Is that normal and desired behavior, or is that an issue? I don't have my browser set up to delete cookies automatically.

This being a privacy-focused instance, maybe it's mandated and unchangeable. But I thought I'd ask.

I randomly have to reload the page, both in FF and Chrome, to get my cookie reread.

Interesting. I just tried it and that worked: I launch the site from a shortcut, and I appear to not be logged in... but if I click refresh, I am logged in.

I'm on Brave Version 1.60.125 Chromium: 119.0.6045.199 (Official Build) (64-bit), running on elementary OS 7.1.

I use a static html custom tab page to load from (not a bookmark) and lemmy is the only site that has this issue. Latest FF, Ungoogled-Chromium, normal Chromium - all behave the same. I also randomly end up 'not logged in' when opening lemmy threads in new tabs. Not always, but sometimes. Refresh always fixes it.
