Umm that sounds like a good thing? People are being paid better and I don't feel the weird feeling of tipping before anything has been delivered.

They raised the minimum pay and will still allow customers to tip after delivery. That’s a step in the right direction.

Yeah, you're right. I'm glad that they're paid more and I'm glad tipping is still possible but it just seems super uncool to remove the prompt.

I had an argument with a coworker once about their second job. They said they blacklist people who don't tip them for delivering pizza. I was surprised and asked them to explain and they said that most of their money came from tips. Without it they made state minimum wage and the job wasn't worth it.

I said they should be paid better.

My coworker responded that they are paid better by people tipping and that's why they blacklist people who don't tip.

I followed it up by pushing the idea that the restaurant should be paying them more so that the job is worth it without tips. And well... The whole thing devolved for some reason and almost ended with me getting punched.

Either way I think you should be paid a living wage and have the ability to get tips for going above and beyond. Tipping shouldn't be the norm/required but it should be available and it sounds like it is in this case just a bit more hidden.

Current system seems like capitalists dream of underpaying employees as much as possible and having the narrative pass the blame to be between customers and workers.

And even better that workers will argue against actually being guaranteed a higher salary in favor of this system on the off chance they might get more. Sort of like gamblers who get off the high of that one big win. Either way, the shift away from having to pay full salaries and benefits is cause for celebration for owners, since they love that it's more likely they don't get blamed and instead the customer when the owner has enough money to take home profits and live well instead of struggling like their employees being paid the bare minimum.

It's pretty much the absolute ideal situation for them. No blame and lower expenses. And most wonderful part of it all is workers being expected to cover the salaries of other workers as opposed to the people at top, so they continue to win in every facet.

Just get rid of the pretense and make a proper market for delivery orders with bids and asks.

Then you can place a limit order for your pizza, to be delivered whenever there is someone willing to deliver at or below your stated price, and vice versa.

Customers pay better than employers.

It's easier to "quit" an underpaying customer than an underpaying employer.
