Religions are a haven for abusers. All authority there is unearned, claimed by the falsehood that the men in charge speak for gods. Mormonism in particular was started by a con man who wanted to sleep with a lot of wives, and was killed by an angry mob of his followers for it. This is totally on brand.

The mob that killed him in jail was upset about the press he'd ordered burnt down after they publicly criticized him.

Bringing up a child in a religion = child indoctrination = child abuse

I believe that they are doing much worse things than this kind of abuse. But it’s a “religion“, so the state lets them do their thing.

In Europe some churches even have their own jurisdiction (e.g. Catholic), so for quite a long time it was left up to them to rule their own child sexual abuse cases, which mostly meant that the priest or bishop, who was abusing children, was just sent to another place.
